Chapter 136
Chapter 136
Austin glanced down at the card on the floor, lips curling in a faint smirk. “Mr. Lucas Bennett, are you sure you’re not mistaken? I don’t know any Lydia. You always said Lydia was your only sister. But the only family I recognize is Emily.”
To show his favoritism towards Lydia, Lucas had made remarks like this more than once in public-anyone paying a bit of attention could casily notice.
“Cut the act with me.” Lucas snapped, his face flushing with fury. “Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you’re after with Emily.”
Lucas snapped, “You saw her having a conflict with us and thought that was your opportunity to worm your way in. You were playing with her feelings just to get as much as you could from the Bennetts, weren’t you? Don’t even think about it.”
Facing the furious Lucas, Austin remained perfectly composed, a faint smile playing on his lips as if he were watching a pathetic clown make a fool of himself.
He waited for Lucas to finish, and spoke slowly, “You done talking? If so, please leave. I’ve got dinner to make for Emily.” Smug and unbothered, he added, “She loves my cooking, and says it’s what home should feel like.”
If he had a tail, he’d probably wag it right in Lucas’s face. Lucas hadn’t expected him to be this shameless, especially that line about “what home should feel like.” For some reason, it felt like something important had been stolen from him.
Lucas grabbed Austin by the collar and snarled, “Who the hell do you think you are? If you weren’t trying to get between her and Lydia, do you think you’d have a shot at her? You’re nothing but a pawn she’s using to spite us.”
He delivered that final line with smug confidence, as if it were an indisputable fact. Austin scoffed. “In your eyes, everything Emily does is just petty jealousy. You think you’re that important?”
Austin sneered, “Your brain is just like your ass; full of shit.” His words were blunt and nasty, but damn, it felt so good to let them out.
Lucas didn’t see it that way. No one had ever spoken to him like that before. His face went rigid, turned red, and then pale. “You-”
He was so furious he couldn’t get a word out. Without another word, he took a swing at Austin. But Lucas’s furious punch was effortlessly caught mid-air by Austin.
Despite looking even younger than Lucas, with a carefree smile on his face, the strength in his grip made Lucas feel suffocating pressure. He stared at Austin in shock, a sudden tightness rising in his chest.
The next moment, Austin released his grip and asked nonchalantly, “Lucas, you put on this act like everything you do is for Emily’s sake. But how much do you know about her?”
Austin’s question left Lucas stunned for a moment. He stared blankly, as if unable to comprehend what Austin meant. Austin smirked, took a step back, and arched an eyebrow at Lucas, indicating for him to follow.
Austin led Lucas to the only bedroom in the rental apartment-Emily’s room. “This is the room where Emily stays. So, Lucas, what exactly do you see here?”
