Chapter 131
Chapter 131
Bob always maintained a reserved and refined demeanor in public, showing his easygoing side only in Charles’s
presence.
Charles chuckled. “You old rascal, you’ve been butting heads with me for decades. What’s the harm in calling me ‘big bro’ for once? Even if you died, you’ll see me in heaven. So, you’ll still have to call me ‘big bro”.”
Bob rolled his eyes again and shot back, “You wish. Maybe I’ll be in heaven first. And when you see me there, you’ll be too old to remember this big bro nonsense.” As he said this, a hint of amusement flickered across his face.
Charles grabbed a pillow from behind him and tossed it at Bob. “In your dreams. You’re much healthier than me.
I might come to see God any day now, and then you’ll be the one crying your eyes out, you old coot.”
Bob quickly tossed the pillow back at him. “God forbid! Not even a mouthful of water could shut your big mouth.”
Charles chuckled, unbothered by the teasing, and didn’t continue the conversation.
Bob grew up in the mountains and only managed to finish his studies and get into university thanks entirely to Charles’ support. After graduating from university, he joined the Bennett Group and became Charles’s trusted aide.
Over the years, through all the ups and downs, Bob and Charles forged a profound friendship that transcended a mere employer-employee relationship. So, their playful banter had long become second nature, with neither of them taking the other’s words seriously-it was just how they were.
Little did they know at that moment how cruelly fate loves to play tricks-their casual banter would soon become a dark prophecy fulfilled.
After saying goodbye to Charles and promising to return before his birthday, Bob planned to set off for Cale’s hometown. But before setting off, he first handed Emily a dossier.
The last time Emily came to see Bob, she wanted his help looking into Louisa’s matter. He had uncovered some leads. After handing all his findings to Emily, he even prepared an additional dossier just for her.
Clutching the dossier, Emily headed straight for university. Stepping back onto campus, the familiar surroundings gave Emily a surreal feeling. ‘It almost felt like a lifetime had passed since I was last here,’ she thought.
She had earned her admission to this school on her merit, and from the moment she first set foot on campus, her heart brimmed with dreams and aspirations.
Two years ago, after receiving a call from Vincent, Emily ran out of school, her heart full of joy, but never
returned.
After a long moment, Emily composed herself and headed to the principal’s office. Just as Emily was about to knock, the door abruptly swung open from within.
Before Emily could react, someone was suddenly shoved out through the doorway. Her hand shot out instinctively to steady the person, but the force of the impact sent her reeling back two paces. Once steady, Emily realized she’d caught Tina, Louisa’s daughter.
