Chapter 130

They had so many financial dealings, yet Cale still kidnapped Lydia. This kidnapping must have been staged. If that’s the case, then Lydia was not someone to be underestimated.

Previously, he had always thought Lydia’s background was spotless-she’d never crossed the line. At most, she was just a bit paranoid, fragile, and prone to jealousy.

With the Bennett Family’s willful blindness, Emily ended up being wronged at every turn. He now realized that both he and Charles might have misjudged Lydia-she was no ordinary person. He had to give Emily a heads-up.

Learning all this, Emily immediately recalled the day she’d accidentally overheard Lydia on the phone, being blackmailed for $700,000. The ransom demanded for Lydia’s kidnapping was also $700,000.

She thought to herself, ‘Could this just be a coincidence?’ She didn’t hold it back and immediately told Bob about it.

Bob was now more convinced than ever that Lydia was hiding something, and he resolved to start with Cale to get to the bottom of things.

Since the investigation into Cale wasn’t yet conclusive, and Bob wasn’t sure about it, he decided not to tell Emily for the time being.

“For now, just act like you don’t know about this and don’t tell anyone else,” Bob said. “I’ll get to the bottom of it and make sure no one bullies you.”

Hearing those words, Emily felt sorry and happy all at once. “Thank you, Bob”. Having grown up under Bob’s care, Emily knew his character inside out.

Even though everyone in the Bennett Family had long treated Bob as one of their own, for all these years, he had meticulously kept to his place, never overstepping his boundaries by even a single inch.

Yet now, just to stand up for her, he kept going against the very principles he had steadfastly lived by for decades.

Bob smiled warmly and said, “You call me Grandpa, so what’s with all this ‘thank you’ business?”

He reached out and gently tapped Emily’s nose. “When you were little and felt wronged, you’d always come running to cling to my leg, demanding I make things right-with that smug look, like my clever little imp.

“What, you’re all grown up now and acting all formal with me?”

Bob had spent his whole life by Charles’s side, never marrying or having children, so naturally, he had no grandchildren either.

Ever since she was little, Emily, with her sweet, affectionate, and clingy nature, had long since become like Bob’s very own granddaughter. Nothing upset him more than seeing Emily being mistreated.

Emily knew just how much Bob cared for her. She playfully clung to his arm and said, “I’m not. If I ever get wronged again, I’ll count on you to back me up.”

Bob nodded with a warm smile. “Of course, I’ll always have your back. No one’s going to bully you on my watch.”

Chapter Tou

Bob had always been a man of his word, so he was determined to get to the bottom of Cale’s shady dealings.

But if Bob wanted to investigate Cale’s hometown in person, he’d first have to keep Charles in the dark-to spare the old man any unnecessary heartache.

Though Bob never had children of his own, he’d sponsored quite a few kids in need over the years. The reason Bob gave Charles was that he was going to visit two of the children he had sponsored.
