From start to finish, Emily acted as if Tina’s words had gone unheard, never once addressing them again. Emily’s reaction only fueled Tina’s anger further. She felt her mom’s efforts had all been in vain.

But to Tina’s surprise, just as she finished settling Louisa in at the hospital and stepped outside, she ran right into Emily. It seemed Emily had been waiting for her. The moment Tina emerged, Emily stepped forward with a greeting.

But Tina’s expression instantly turned cold. “What are you doing here?”

Emily ignored her cold demeanor and came straight to the point. “I want to know what you meant earlier. Why did Louisa face disciplinary action because of me?”

“You didn’t know?” Tina’s eyes widened in shock, and then darkened with even greater fury. ‘My mom sacrificed her entire future for this person, and yet she doesn’t even have a clue.’

Tina glared at Emily, but for a long moment, the words seemed to catch in her throat.

She thought to herself, “That was Mom’s decision. Even if Emily isn’t worth it, I have to respect her choice. ‘Tina said coldly, “Just go. I don’t want to see you.” Without another word, she turned away.

Emily firmly grasped her hand and said, “I genuinely need to know what happened.” Emily said, “Ever since I started university, Louisa has been my mentor-the person I respect most.

“Back then, when everyone else accused me of plagiarism, she was the only one who never stopped believing in me. I have to know-why did Louisa get into trouble because of me?”

Her demeanor was earnest and unwavering, even carrying a silent plea in her eyes. As Tina looked at Emily, her eyes slowly reddened.

Louisa had told her over and over not to bring any of this up in front of Emily, but she knew just how deeply wronged Louisa felt inside. “You want to know why? Fine, I’ll tell you.”

Tina whirled around, glaring at Emily with burning anger. “Because my mom stubbornly believed you didn’t plagiarize, she went around begging everyone for any scrap of video or photo evidence.

“Whether it was photos of you or things you’d touched-anything connected to you-she paid top dollar to get them all. Because of this, she was anonymously reported for harassing students.

“She was stripped of all her academic titles and nearly expelled from university. Now the whole campus is spreading rumors that she’s a perverted lesbian with twisted preferences-a female pervert.”

At those last two words, Tina’s tears finally broke free. Her mom’s lifelong reputation and her entire future were all destroyed, all because of this.

Emily’s face drained of color. Her grip on Tina’s hand slackened as she staggered back two steps. ‘I didn’t know. I utterly didn’t know.

Back when everyone accused her of plagiarism, Emily, feeling utterly helpless, had clung to Louisa as her last hope, pleading with her to believe in her innocence and help find evidence to clear her name.
