Chapter 127
Bob’s stern, disappointed gaze struck Lucas like a hammer to the heart. Lucas dimly recalled that, long ago, his trust and reliance on Emily had far surpassed even that for Emma. ‘But why am I suspecting Emily now, without a shred of evidence?’
Seeing Lucas’s dazed expression, Bob let out a heavy sigh. “Lucas, after Ms. Bennett was kidnapped, you were all busy blaming Emily, covering up the news, and worrying about Ms. Bennett. Why couldn’t any of you just use your heads for once?
“The Bennett Family assigned so many bodyguards to protect Ms. Bennett. Why would she suddenly dismiss them all? And why would she show up in that run-down neighborhood?”
Lucas froze on the spot, speechless for a long moment. He might not be the most diligent student, but he was not clueless. Frustration and shame were welling up inside him. ‘So why had I never thought about these questions before?’
For the first time, instead of rushing to defend Lydia whenever she played the victim, Lucas began a discreet investigation. Emily remained completely oblivious to Lucas’s secret investigation.
Only after the bruises on her face had completely faded did Emily go to the hospital to visit Charles. With the birthday party preparations keeping her busy, Emily didn’t even need to make excuses for her long absence.
After visiting Charles, Emily was just coming downstairs to leave the hospital when she spotted a familiar figure. “Louisa?” Emily called out
The woman in the wheelchair, her face haggard and etched with worry, was none other than Louisa. Emily hurried over, looking at her with concern. “Louisa, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Emily remembered that the last time she saw Louisa, Louisa seemed perfectly fine. She thought, ‘How did she end up looking so worn out now?’
At the sight of Emily, Louisa’s face visibly brightened, but she shook her head with a faint smile. “I’m fine,” she said.
Emily could tell from her face that something was wrong. She didn’t believe for a second that she was fine. She turned to the woman standing behind the wheelchair with a questioning look.
The woman appeared to be about her age and bore a distinct resemblance to Louisa.
The woman smiled and nodded in greeting, her manner gentle and friendly. “You must be my mom’s student, right? I’m Tina Morgan. My mom just has a minor issue-nothing serious.”
Hearing Tina’s reassurance, Emily let out a small sigh of relief, but her underlying worry remained undiminished.
Louisa, sensing Emily’s lingering concern, quickly changed the subject and asked gently, “Emily, what brings you to the hospital?”
“I came to visit my grandfather,” Emily said, crouching down in front of her and gently taking her hand, about to continue to speak.
But just then, Tina suddenly yanked her to her feet and snapped, “You’re Emily?”

Chapter ZI
The woman who’d been all warmth and friendliness just moments ago suddenly snapped-her voice turning sharp, icy, and edged with anger. Emily was taken aback by her sudden change in attitude and was completely bewildered.
Tina shook off Emily’s hand-not forcefully, but with palpable anger. She spat, “Get lost. I don’t want to see you!”
Emily furrowed her brow slightly, a puzzled look on her face as she regarded her. “I don’t think we’ve met before. Is there some kind of misunderstanding between us?”
