Chapter 119

Andrew’s grip was strong, and his hand on Emily’s collar felt like it was choking her. His eyes were ablaze with fury, as if the person standing in front of him was his archenemy.

Emily felt the pain intensify from his grip. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

She tried to break free, but Andrew tightened his hold. “I’ve already forgiven you once. Why did you have someone kidnap Lydia? Are you trying to harm her like-”

He halted abruptly, his bloodshot eyes boring into Emily’s. He couldn’t bring himself to say the name he had in mind, but Emily knew exactly who he was referring to. In fact, everyone present understood the unsaid name.

Emily ceased her struggle and looked into his crimson eyes, her voice resolute. “I didn’t arrange for anyone to kidnap Ms. Bennett, nor have I ever orchestrated any kidnappings,

“Andrew, I’ve explained this many times, but you never believe me. You don’t believe the police investigation either. You prefer to convict people based on your own judgment. It was like that then, and it still is now. You-”

“Shut up!” Andrew, like a cat whose tail was stepped on, suddenly lifted his hand and slapped Emily across the face.

He moved so quickly that no one had time to react before the loud slap echoed through the air.

“Emily!” Bob ran over as fast as he could, nearly stumbling in his haste to catch Emily, who was knocked backward by the blow.

However, age had slowed him down, and he couldn’t reach her in time. He could only watch as Emily fell and hit her head heavily on the ground.

By the time Bob got to her and lifted her up, a stream of hot blood was already flowing from her forehead. The sight of the bright red blood shocked everyone into silence, including Andrew, who had been seething with anger just moments before.

Panic rose within Andrew’s heart, and he held his hand up, the same one that had slapped Emily, unsure of what to do. “I didn’t…” Andrew wanted to explain but was rendered speechless when he met Emily’s cold gaze.

It felt like a block of ice had dropped into his clothes on a winter day, making him shiver uncontrollably and clearing his mind.

He wondered, ‘When did Emily’s gaze toward me become colder than that of a stranger’s? She used to always say I was the best brother in the world, insisting she would rely on me for life, even after getting married.’

Andrew suddenly couldn’t recall the last time Emily had looked at him with admiration and dependence.

A strange sense of anxiety surged inside him, prompting him to step forward, but Bob blocked his way. “Mr. Bennett, I suggest you stay where you are.”

Andrew’s face froze as he subconsciously adjusted his glasses. “I didn’t mean to…”

“I know you didn’t mean it,” Bob cut him off coldly, an angry fire flaring in his eyes.

He continued, “You didn’t mean to hit Emily and make her bleed. Just like Mr. Lucas Bennett didn’t mean to
