Chapter 118

No one expected Lucas to suddenly mention Emily at that moment; everyone stared at him in disbelief. No one noticed Lydia’s face turn stiff for a split second.

She thought, ‘Why on earth would this idiot bring up Emily now? Shouldn’t he be completely concerned about me?’

Seeing no one respond, Lucas continued, “Two million, same demand for half an hour, but Emily looked way more helpless than Lydia did…”

He logically compared Lydia’s kidnapping situation to Emily’s previous one and concluded, “Maybe we really misunderstood Emily; she didn’t stage her own kidnapping last time.” After Lucas finished, he looked at them with hopeful eyes.

But the Bennett family exchanged glances and saw anger in each other’s eyes.

Emma smacked the back of his head and said angrily, “Are you suggesting that Lydia faked it? She just went through a terrifying ordeal and is still shaken up, and you’re doubting her now? That’s just too harsh.”

Andrew’s voice was stern. “That’s completely inappropriate. Apologize to Lydia right now.”

Gale didn’t speak, but his look expressed disapproval.

Lydia kept silent, just lowered her head, looking immensely wronged.

Lucas suddenly felt a disturbing sense of familiarity as he looked at their reactions, like he’d seen this scene somewhere before.

Before Lucas could figure out where this feeling came from, Lydia suddenly spoke up to defend him, “Dad, Mom, Andrew, please don’t be mad at Lucas. I believe he didn’t mean it that way.”

Lucas clung to her words like a lifeline and hurriedly nodded in agreement. “Yes, I absolutely didn’t mean it that way. Lydia is incredibly kind-hearted. How could I doubt her? I just suddenly thought of Emily and wondered if maybe we misunderstood her.”

Seeing him still speaking up for Emily at this moment, a tinge of panic surfaced in Lydia’s heart.

She thought, ‘It’s me who got hurt today, and Lucas didn’t even ask about me once. Instead, he’s worried about Emily now.

‘My original goal today was just to get the two million, so I didn’t have time to deal with Emily. But now, I’ve changed my mind.’

With a conflicted expression, Lydia spoke up, “I don’t know if Emily staged her own kidnapping, but I think I might know who kidnapped me.”

Everyone’s attention immediately shifted to her when they heard this.

Lucas was the most excited. “Lydia, tell us, who dared to kidnap you? I won’t let them get away with it.”

Lydia cautiously looked at the anxious faces around her and hesitated before saying, “I think it was Emily.”

Chapter 118

The surroundings suddenly went silent as everyone was stunned.

Andrew spoke first. “Are you saying it was Emily?” His voice was deep, unclear whether he believed Lydia or was recalling something unpleasant.

Lucas was the second to speak. “That’s impossible, right? Lydia, did you misunderstand?” He said it couldn’t be true, but his tone was full of uncertainty.

Before speaking, he even instinctively glanced at Andrew. Emily had done such things in the past, so even though he wanted to defend her now, he couldn’t be confident about it.

Lydia seemed to remember something too and cautiously glanced at Andrew’s cold expression before speaking again. “Maybe I misunderstood. The kidnappers thought I was unconscious and didn’t avoid me when they called their boss, so I heard her voice.”

She seemed hesitant, like she wanted to say something but didn’t dare, her voice growing weaker but still audible

to everyone.

She continued, “The voice really sounded like Emily’s, and I heard her say that this kidnapping wasn’t just for money, but also to teach me a lesson for taking away her identity as the Bennett family heiress.”

At this point, she almost directly accused Emily. No one doubted Lydia’s words; it seemed that as long as Lydia said it, it had to be true.

“Emily is too much.” Lucas slammed his leather seat in anger, his eyes blazing with fury. He thought, ‘I was just defending her, even feeling guilty towards her, but such a malicious woman doesn’t deserve it.’

Gale and Emma were also filled with rage, but mostly they felt sorry for Lydia. “Don’t worry, Lydia. To us, you are our only daughter.”

Andrew was the only one who hadn’t spoken, but his face was so cold it looked like it could freeze. He opened the car’s partition and commanded the driver up front, “Accelerate, head back to the Bennett residence.”

Initially, they planned to take Lydia to the hospital, but now everyone was fuming inside because of what she said. Nobody stopped Andrew. If Emily was really behind this, they were determined to get justice for Lydia.

At this moment, Emily had no idea what was coming her way; she was discussing things with Bob.

Next month was Charles’s birthday. Over the past two years, since Emily had been away and Charles had stayed in the hospital, he hadn’t celebrated.

Now that his beloved granddaughter was back, Charles wanted to make it a big celebration and had entrusted Emily with planning the entire birthday party.

At Charles’s age, whether a regular birthday party was held or not didn’t really matter. However, he specifically instructed that Emily organize a grand celebration to send out a clear message to everyone-regardless of her last name, he would always support Emily.
