Chapter 115
Rounding the stairs and sprinting down the long corridor, Lydia finally spotted a cluster of neighborhood elders huddled together, chatting.
“Help!” Lydia screamed hysterically, her voice choked with terror. She staggered desperately toward them and collapsed right at their feet.
“Oh dear, where did this young lady come from? What on earth happened to you?”
“Sweetie, are you alright? What on earth happened?”
The neighbors rushed over to help her, their faces etched with genuine concern.
Lydia clutched the older woman who had helped her to her feet, as if she had just found her only lifeline. “I…” Lydia gasped hoarsely, her voice trembling.
“Aunt Zoc.” Austin’s voice suddenly rang out, greeting the elderly woman helping Lydia with practiced ease.
Zoe greeted Austin, “Austin, I haven’t seen you in days. What have you been up to lately?
“I took your advice and had my grandson switch jobs early. Turns out, his old boss actually ran off with all the company’s money. All those stock options they promised were just a total scam.”
An elder man said, “Hey Austin, that chess move you taught me last time. I’ve been practicing it nonstop! When can we have our rematch?”
“Austin, you were right. Without that good-for-nothing son of mine acting as a go-between, the conflicts between me and my daughter-in-law have indeed been cut by more than half.”
“Austin…” The elderly neighbors who had just been fussing over Lydia now all flocked to Austin, greeting him with practiced warmth and familiarity.
Austin had become a trusted helper for all the elderly neighbors, assisting them with everything from financial matters to daily routines. Naturally, he had earned their complete trust.
At the sight, Lydia’s face turned ghostly pale, her briefly settled heart hammering with renewed dread.
At that moment, Lydia bitterly regretted sending her bodyguards away just to keep the Bennett family from discovering her whereabouts. With no one to protect her, she was completely on her own.
Lydia’s eyes darted around frantically, her instincts screaming at her to run. Austin kept his gaze fixed on her, determined not to let her escape.
“From now on, you all better watch out for this woman.” As Austin gestured toward Lydia, all eyes in the crowd snapped back at her.
Lydia froze mid-step, a wave of panic washing over her. She opened her mouth to speak, but Austin cut her off before she could get a word out,
“I don’t even know this woman,” Austin protested. “Yesterday, she suddenly showed up and tried to claim kinship
my sister. And today, she specifically came to find me when my sister wasn’t around.

Chapter 115
“The moment we met, she started spreading vicious rumors about my sister Emily, saying all sorts of nasty things. And then she shamelessly tried to throw herself at me.”
“The hallway was pitch black. I honestly thought I was being robbed, so I just defended myself. Who knew she’d suddenly start screaming ‘Help!’ and bolt out? So, I just chased her out…”
Austin rattled off his words, his face the very picture of wounded innocence.
Austin was naturally handsome and charismatic. With his silver tongue and thoughtful gestures, he had quickly endeared himself to all the elderly neighbors in the community.
