Chapter 116

Lydia had never experienced such utter humiliation in her life. Ever since returning to the Bennett family, Lydia had always been the apple of everyone’s eye and the center of attention wherever she went.

To her utter shock, the very skill she was most proud of had actually failed against a bunch of stubborn old

geezers.

Lydia stood there in utter humiliation, her smoldering eyes burning with a rage that threatened to incinerate this rundown neighborhood.

She took several deep breaths to rein in her spiraling emotions, then suddenly lifted her gaze toward the nearby

road.

On a utility pole by the roadside, a worn-out yet surprisingly functional surveillance camera had a clear view of Lydia’s exact spot.

After a brief pause, Lydia squared her shoulders and strode purposefully toward the surveillance camera.

Just as Lydia reached the curb, an unmarked van screeched to a halt beside her.

Three masked men in caps burst out, swiftly hoisting Lydia before she could put up any resistance, and bundled her into the waiting van.

The entire incident unfolded in mere seconds. Even if bystanders witnessed it, they had no time to step in and could only call the police.

In less than half an hour, the entire Bennett family learned of Lydia’s kidnapping.

Andrew, who was in the middle of a corporate meeting, immediately left everyone in the conference room behind and demanded, “Find out at once who dared to lay a hand on Lydia in Cloudridge.”

Lucas, the racing enthusiast, ditched his competition and blew through several red lights on his way home. Gritting his teeth, he growled, “If I ever find out who kidnapped Lydia, I swear I’ll make them pay.”

Even Gale, who always prioritized company interests above all else, rushed back with Emma right away. His face darkened with rage as he thundered, “How dare they lay a finger on my daughter? Do they take the Bennett family for a pushover?”

Before the kidnappers even made their call, the Bennett family was already up in arms, ready to spring into action. It was as if even the loss of a single hair from Lydia was something they simply couldn’t accept.

But before they could act, the kidnappers called. A voice on the other end demanded, “If you want Lydia unharmed, wire two million to the account I specified within 30 minutes. Or else…”

Before the kidnapper could even finish, Emma blurted out, her voice tinged with a sob, “Okay, I promise you. Just please, don’t hurt my daughter!”

Gale pulled Emma into his arms, his eyes burning with cold fury yet brimming with undisguised concern.

Andrew remained calmer than Emma, though his eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses blazed with fury. “If you want the money,” he said coldly, “prove the hostage is safe first.”

Andrew said menacingly, “You can have the money, but if Lydia so much as loses a single hair, there will be hell to pay

Lucas, too, was seething with rage, But as he listened to the kidnapper’s words, an unsettling thought suddenly surfaced. He thought, “This script sounded oddly familiar

Lucas froze. Suddenly, it hit him. He thought, ‘Weren’t these the exact same words the kidnappers used when Emily staged her own kidnapping last time?’

Lydia’s too pure-hearted to pull something like this,’ Lucas thought. ‘Wait, was Emily’s kidnapping actually real?’ A sudden jolt of panic shot through Lucas.
