Chapter 78
Lysandra’s POV
“Mommy! Your phone was ringing!” Lyra announced cheerfully as I stepped into my bedroom, towel still wrapped around my dripping hair.
I froze at the doorway, taking in the sight of my twins perched on my bed. Orion’s face was set in that serious expression he’d inherited from his father, while Lyra’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
“It was our Wolf King Hero calling!” she continued, practically bouncing on the mattress.
My stomach dropped. “What wolf king hero?” I asked carefully, resuming the task of drying my hair while my mind raced through possibilities.
“The handsome uncle who saved you!” Lyra clapped her hands together. “I gave him a new name because he’s like the wolf king from our stories, and he rescued you, so he’s the Wolf King Hero! I answered the phone and told him you were taking a bath.”
The towel slipped from my fingers and hit the floor with a soft thud. “You did what?!” I stared at my daughter in shock. “How do you even know about the accident?”
Lyra and Orion exchanged guilty glances.
“We were playing outside Grandpa’s study,” Orion admitted. “We heard him talking to Uncle Kieran about how someone crashed their car to save you.”
“I wasn’t eavesdropping on purpose!” Lyra added quickly. “But I heard Grandpa say the Alpha of Silver–something saved you from falling off a cliff!”
I closed my eyes briefly. I’d specifically asked my parents not to discuss the accident around the children. I’d wanted to protect them from unnecessary worry, but clearly that plan had failed.
“I told her not to,” Orion cut in, his voice gravely serious for a five–year–old. “But she never listens to me. She’s too obsessed with that Dangerous Wolf Man.”
My heart hammered against my ribs as I tried to process what had happened. Tristan had called me -repeatedly, according to Lyra–and my daughter had picked up. My daughter had spoken to her father without either of them knowing their connection.
“Lyra, sweetheart, what have we said about answering Mommy’s phone?” I struggled to keep my voice steady as I picked up the towel.
“But he kept calling! And my Wolf King Hero saved you!” Lyra’s logic was impeccable in her five- year–old mind. “Moon Grandma says we should thank people who help us.”

Mom, she also told him you think he’s a hero,” Orlon added with an eye roll that was far too mature for his age.
“I did not say that!” I stared at my daughter in shock.
Lyra’s smile was pure sunshine. “But you think it in your heart, right? Everyone’s saying the Wolf King Hero crashed his car to save you,”
“Lyra, that Dangerous Wolf Man isn’t a hero,” Orion reminded his twin sister, his protective nature on full display. “Remember Mom told us we have to stay away from him.”
“He is not dangerous! He’s the Wolf King Hero! And his voice sounds like the bravest Alpha in the forest!” Lyra argued back. “Mom, you should date the Wolf King Hero!”
“What? No!” Both Orion and I exclaimed simultaneously.
I shook my head, torn between amusement and genuine concern. What had Lyra told Tristan? How much had she revealed in her innocent chatter? My mind conjured worst–case scenarios–Tristan connecting the dots, discovering the twins were his, demanding custody.
“Mom,” Lyra said with the seriousness only a child could muster when discussing fairy tales, “in the Moon Wolf stories, the Wolf King Hero always ends up with the princess after he saves her. It’s the
rule.”
I sat beside her on the bed, gently stroking her hair. “Life isn’t a fairy tale, baby. And sometimes wolves who look like heroes can actually be dangerous predators.”
Her head tilted curiously. “But if he’s a Dangerous Wolf Man, why would he save you?”
“Because he wants the credit and to look like a good guy,” Orion interjected with absolute certainty.
“You’re just jealous my Wolf King Hero is cooler than you!” Lyra stuck her tongue out at her brother.
“Enough, you two,” I rubbed my temples, feeling a headache building. “From now on, nobody touches Mommy’s phone, understand? Especially no talking to that… to that man.”
I fell silent, not knowing how to answer Lyra’s simple yet profound question. Why would Tristan risk his life to save me if he hated me so much? The contradiction made my head spin almost as much as my still–healing injuries.
In the awkward silence that followed, Orion reached out and took my bandaged hand with surprising gentleness. “Does it still hurt, Mom?”
The sincere concern in his blue–gray eyes–so like his father’s yet filled with warmth Tristan’s never had–made my heart squeeze. “Just a little, moonbeam. I’m getting better every day.”

“Can I sign your cast? I want to draw you as a superhero wolf!” Lyra asked, already reaching for her
colored markers.
“It’s not a cast, Lyra. It’s a bandage,” Orion corrected his sister. “And you can’t draw on bandages.”
“You always ruin everything,” Lyra pouted.
Despite my worries, I couldn’t help but laugh. These moments–just me and my children–were what mattered most. Not Tristan, not pack politics, not ancient prophecies. Just us.
