Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Third Person POV

The first fat drops of rain struck Tristan’s windshield as he accelerated, eyes locked on the taillights ahead. They winked at him through the darkness like mocking red eyes, maintaining a steady distance despite his efforts to close the gap.

Fuck,he muttered, knuckles whitening as he gripped the steering wheel. His phone lay silent on the passenger seat, calls unanswered, texts unread.

The sleek black Mercedes responded instantly to his touch, engine growling as he pressed the accelerator. Trees blurred past on either side, the forest growing denser as they approached Silverblood territory’s edge. His wolf stirred restlessly beneath his skin, urging him forward with a singleminded focus he couldn’t explain.

Why the hell was he following her? She wasn’t his responsibility anymorenot his Luna, not his concern. Yet here he was, chasing her car like a lovesick teenager, heart pounding with a mixture of anger and something far more dangerous.

Tristan jabbed the call button on his steering wheel again. Answer the damn phone, Lysandra.

The call connected, then immediately diverted to voicemail.

She rejected my call,he growled, slamming his palm against the wheel. She fucking rejected my

call.

His wolf’s agitation spiked, nearly overwhelming his human consciousness. The animal part of him didn’t understand why they were following instead of forcing her to stop, why they weren’t dragging his mate back to their territory where she belonged.

The rain intensified, heavy sheets pounding against metal and glass, visibility deteriorating by the second. Tristan leaned forward, squinting through the blur of his wipers.

******

Lysandra stared at her phone as it vibrated again, Tristan’s name flashing on the screen. With a decisive swipe, she rejected the call, then powered off the device completely before dropping it into

her purse.

I want to get home as quickly as possible, she said, meeting her driver’s eyes in the rearview

mirror.

Yes, Miss Ravencroft. I’m increasing our speed, the driver replied, hands steady on the wheel despite the worsening conditions.

She leaned back against the leather seat, exhaustion seeping into her bones. The past week had been an emotional marathoneach day at Moon Sanctuary a delicate dance to avoid Tristan while helping Fenris. Relief at the successful treatment mingled with bonedeep weariness.

Tomorrow, she’d see her children again. The thought brought a smile to her lips. Five days without their chatter, without Orion’s serious frowns and Lyra’s infectious laughter, had felt like an eternity.

The car lurched suddenly, breaking her reverie. Rain lashed against the windows, turning the world outside into a watery nightmare. The vehicle slid slightly on the slick asphalt, tires hunting for purchase.

Sorry, Miss Ravencroft, the driver called over his shoulder. The road conditions are deteriorating rapidly.

Lysandra gripped the door handle, unease crawling up her spine.

The driver pressed the brake pedal as they approached a curve, but the car maintained its speed. He pressed harder, foot slamming down.
