Lysandra’s POV
Kieran answered the call immédiately, tapping the speaker button without hesitation. He placed the phone between us on the polished desk, the device looking impossibly small against the mahogany surface.
“Kieran Nightcrest speaking. His voice remained steady, professional.
“Kieran, Tristan’s voice filled the small office space, cold and commanding. The sound sent an electric current down my spine that I fought to ignore. 1 need to speak with Lysandra.”
My heart lurched at the deep timbre of his voice. Something primal inside me responded to it, even after all these years. Astrid stirred restlessly, pushing against my consciousness with unexpected force,
Mate. Our mate is calling us. Her voice was eager, almost desperate.
No, you are wrong! I reminded her sharply, suppressing the unwelcome warmth spreading through my chest.
Kieran’s eyes found mine, silently questioning. I nodded once, straightening my spine as if preparing for battle.
“She’s right here beside me,” Kieran replied, his tone deliberately casual as his hand moved to rest on the back of my chair. “You’re on speaker.”
There was a pause – brief but loaded with tension. When Tristan spoke again, his voice had dropped several degrees, ice forming around each syllable.
“You two are inseparable these days, aren’t you?” The question carried the weight of an accusation.
“We work together, Kieran replied smoothly before I could answer. “What did you expect?”
Astrid whined softly in my mind, responding to Tristan’s voice with a yearning that made my skin flush hot with betrayal. Mate is angry. We should soothe him.
I mentally shushed her, focusing on keeping my breathing even.
“What do you want, Alpha Tristan?” I cut in, forcing my voice to remain neutral despite the storm brewing inside me. My fingers curled into my palm, nails leaving crescent indentations.
Another pause, this one longer. He clearly hadn’t expected me to join the conversation so quickly. I imagined him sitting in his office, broad shoulders tense with surprise.
*Social media crusade finally over?” His tone dripped with sarcasm. “Or should I be expecting more public accusations from you?”
I raised an eyebrow, though he couldn’t see it. “If you’re referring to my post about Selene’s behavior, that was simply stating facts. You know as well as I do what really happened.”
Kieran moved behind me, his warm hands settling on my shoulders. His thumbs worked small circles at the base of my neck, easing the tension I hadn’t realized had built there. The gesture was innocent enough, something he’d done countless times over the years, but with Tristan on the line, it felt like an intimate declaration.
“Selene would never do what you’ve accused her of,” Tristan replied, his voice hardening. “These are lies you’ve fabricated for revenge. You’re no better now than you were five years ago.
The accusation stung more than it should have. I/swallowed hard, fighting back the unexpected hurt his words evoked.
“Really?” I couldn’t keep the mockery from my tone. “Your precious ‘white rose‘ is incapable of wrongdoing? I thought your time as Alpha might have finally given you the ability to see beyond convenient lies.”
Kieran reached past me, picking up my coffee mug. He took a deliberate sip, his eyes never leaving mine.
“Hey, I laughed, the sound cutting through the tension. “That’s my coffee.”

Chapter 33
The small moment of normalcy with Kieran was like a shield against Tristan’s hostility.
Tristan’s harsh breath crackled through the speaker. “You two are disgusting.”
The venom in his voice sent an unexpected pang through my chest. Why did he care? He’d made his choice five years ago. My fingers twitched toward the phone, wanting to end the call before his voice could dig any deeper under my skin.
“You know, Lysandra, Tristan continued, his voice taking on a dangerous edge, ‘I’ve been thinking about those children of yours. Interesting timing. wouldn’t you say?”
My blood froze in my veins. Kieran’s hands tightened on my shoulders, a
“What are you implying?” I kept my voice steady, though my heartbeat thundered in
my ears.
“Those twins look about five years old, Tristan pressed, each word carefully measured. “You left Silverblood five years ago. Makes me wonder when exactly you started your relationship with ‘Beta Kieran‘ here.”
Panic clawed up my throat, but I refused to let it show. “My personal life after our divorce is none of your business, Tristan.”
“During, not after,” he corrected, voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “Those children were conceived while we were still married, weren’t they?”
Anger flared, hot and bright, burning away my fear. How dare he? After everything he’d put me through, every humiliation, every cold night alone while he spent time with Selene – he was accusing me of infidelity?
“That’s enough,” Kieran intervened, his usually calm voice tight with restraint. “You’ve said what you needed to say, Alpha Tristan. Is there anything else, or can we end this call?”
“Stay out of this, Beta, Tristan snarled. “This is between me and my—”
“Ex–wife,” I finished for him, my voice sharp enough to cut glass. “And Kieran has every right to speak. Unlike you, he’s been at my side for years, supporting
me when I needed it most.”
Those words hung in the air, a challenge I hadn’t intended to issue.
Tristan’s silence spoke volumes. I could almost see him, jaw clenched, those steel–blue eyes blazing with fury. When he finally spoke again, his voice had changed, becoming oddly subdued.
“I didn’t call about this,” he said abruptly. “My father is ill. He’s in the hospital.”
The sudden shift knocked me off balance. The anger drained from me in an instant, replaced by genuine concern. Fenris had always been kind to me, even
when his son wasn’t.
“He’s been asking for you, Tristan continued, an unexpected vulnerability threading through his words. “The doctors aren’t sure what’s wrong. Tests are
inconclusive.”
I exchanged glances with Kieran, reading the concern in his eyes. His hands tightened slightly on my shoulders, a silent warning about potential deception.
