Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 220

Chapter 220

No way, Eleanor shook her head firmly, face pinched with concern. I absolutely refuse to let you go there.

I’d already grabbed my purse from the hook, slinging it over my shoulder with determination.

Lysandra, stop. Eleanor caught my wrist, her fingers warm against my skin. “You don’t have to do this for me. We can absorb this loss. Nothing matters more than your safety.

I turned to face her, surprised by the genuine fear in her eyes. She didn’t understand that I could protect myselfthat the last person who should fear Tristan Wolfbane was me.

He won’t hurt me,I assured her, gently removing her hand from my wrist. Not physically, at least.

Eleanor’s eyes widened. That’s not exactly reassuring.

I’ll be fine,I said, forcing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. This is just another power play. He wants to see me squirm, but I won’t give bira the satisfaction.

She didn’t look convinced. At least let me come with you.

You need to stay and manage the shop.I glanced toward the front, where staff bustled around preparing the massive order. Besides, the last thing I need is to worry about protecting you too.

Eleanor frowned at that, confusion crossing her features. Before she could question me further, I pulled open the door.

I’ll call you when I’m done,I promised, stepping out into the morning sunlight before she could protest again.

Outside, the coffee shop staff loaded cardboard carriers into the back of a delivery truck. I flagged down a passing taxi, sliding into the back seat with a sigh of relief.

Follow that delivery truck,I instructed the driver, pointing to the coffee shop’s vehicle.

The driver raised an eyebrow but nodded. You got it, boss.

Twenty minutes later, the taxi pulled up in front of the Wolfbane Enterprises tower. I paid the fare and stepped out, tilting my head back to take in the imposing structure before me. Glass and steel stretched toward the sky, sunlight reflecting off windows that seemed to touch the

clouds.

The building screamed power and wealtheven more impressive than Ravencroft headquarters had been. I felt a twinge of what might have been pride once, now dulled to something like regret.

If I’d opposed Alaric that day and given the partnership to Silverblood Pack instead, would we have avoided the war? I shook my head, dispelling the thought. Alpha Kael would have found another reason. The war had been inevitable from the moment he set his sights on our territory.

A security guard approached, clipboard in hand. Are you from Howling Beans Coffee?

I nodded, watching as other guards began unloading boxes from the delivery truck.

The last box is still in the vehicle, the guard said, gesturing toward the truck. Please bring it and follow us inside.

I grabbed the remaining box, balancing it against my hip as I trailed behind the security team through the massive glass doors.

The interior took my breath away. Marble floors gleamed under crystal chandeliers. A water feature dominated the center of the lobby, the gentle sound of flowing water creating an atmosphere of calm productivity. Employees moved with purpose, their expressions focused and professional.

The guards led me to the reception desk before disappearing with the coffee delivery. I approached the sleek counter, setting my box down with

a soft thud.

I’m looking for Alpha Tristan,I said.

The receptionist’s head snapped up, recognition flashing in her eyes. Though Tristan had never publicly identified his exwife, my face had become somewhat notorious in werewolf social circles after the divorce.

Do you have an appointment?she asked, voice professionally neutral despite her widened eyes.

I gestured to the coffee box. I’m from Howling Beans.

Oh!Understanding washed over her face. Please proceed to the top floor. Alpha’s office is there. The receptionist upstairs will direct you further.

The elevator ride gave me too much time to think. What exactly was Tristan planning? Was this his way of forcing a confrontation?

The elevator doors slid open to the executive floor. I spotted an employee walking past with a stack of folders. Excuse me, where is Alpha Tristan’s office?

Down the hall, take a left at the end, third door,he replied without breaking stride.

I followed his directions, turning left at the corridor’s end only to find myself facing at least six identical doors. Confusion washed over me until I spotted one door marked with the Alpha symbola stylized wolf’s head etched into polished wood.

I knocked politely, balancing the coffee box against my hip. No response came, but I could hear muffled voices inside. Probably on a phone call, I reasoned. If I could just deliver the coffee and leave, this ordeal would be over quickly.

Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open.

The massive conference room fell silent the instant I appeared. Around a long mahogany table sat over a dozen men. Their expressions ranged from surprise to amusement to disdain as all eyes turned toward me.

My stomach dropped to my feet. This wasn’t Tristan’s officeit was a highlevel council meeting. And I’d just barged in like an idiot.

My gaze finally landed on Tristan at the head of the table. His face remained impassive, but a muscle jumped in his jaw.

In the awkward silence, a burly man broke the silence. Well, look who it is! The Moonshade princess reduced to serving coffee! His booming laugh filled the room.

I thought the Ravencrofts would have shipped their princess somewhere safe, another Alpha chimed in, his lips curved in a smirk. Not left

her here as a servant.

Several people chuckled, the sound grating against my ears like sandpaper. Tristan’s expression turned glacial. I assumed his anger was directed at me for barging in and disrupting his important meeting.
