Chapter 17
Lysandra’s POV
I turned and froze. Tristan stood tall in his impeccable black suit, Selene pressed against his side, her pale hand possessively wrapped around his arm. The diamond bracelet on her wrist caught the light as she leaned into him, whispering something that made her lips curl into a smile.
I tore my gaze away, focusing instead on former Alpha Fenris Wolfbane. Despite the years that had passed, he still maintained that imposing presence, though his eyes had gained new lines at the corners.
“I must say,” I began, desperate to think of anything but the couple behind us, “since your son already has a mate, he must be quite content.”
Tristan’s voice drifted from behind me, so quiet I almost missed it. “No.”
I blinked, unsure if I’d heard correctly. Fenris’s expression remained carefully neutral as he studied my face.
“How is Luna Isolde?” I asked, genuinely concerned for the woman who had shown me kindness.
Fenris’s gaze flicked briefly toward Selene before returning to me. “She no longer holds the Luna position. Soon, I suspect, someone else will claim that title.” The disapproval in his tone made it clear exactly who that someone might be.
“She’s ill,” he continued. “That’s why she couldn’t attend tonight.”
My heart clenched at the news. “I hope she recovers quickly.”
“She misses you,” Fenris said, his voice softening. “Why don’t you visit her at Silverblood Pack?”
“Please accept my apologies,” I replied, maintaining the polite distance. “I must return to Moonshade Pack as soon as this event concludes.”
Tristan’s brow furrowed at my words, displeasure darkening his features like storm clouds gathering on the horizon. He opened his mouth to speak, but a familiar voice cut through the tension.
“Don’t tell me you got lost again.”
Relief flooded me at Kieran’s timely arrival. He approached with casual confidence, his tailored navy suit highlighting the breadth of his shoulders.
“No, I was just speaking with Alpha Fenris,” I replied, gratitude evident in my smile.
I turned to make introductions. “This is Kieran Nightcrest, Beta of Moonshade Pack.”
Fenris nodded in recognition. “Of course. Who wouldn’t know him? Beta Kieran, right–hand man to the late Alpha Caspian Ravencroft, and closest friend to current Alpha Alaric. Alpha Caspian managed his pack effectively thanks
to his assistance.”

I leaned toward Kieran, whispering, “Quite the endorsement.”
“Thank you for acknowledging my worth,” Kieran replied to Fenris with a respectfull nod. “I’m afraid I must borrow this beautiful lady. There are matters I need to discuss with her.”
We deliberately avoided looking at Tristan and Selene as Kieran placed his hand at the small of my back, guiding
me away.
“You saved me today,” I told Kieran once we were safely across the room.
“Did he say something to you?”
“No,” I lied, not wanting to escalate tensions.
The ballroom lights dimmed slightly as a council member tapped a microphone at the front of the room. Conversations quieted as attention shifted toward the stage where members of the Moon Ring Council had
assembled.
Kieran took my hand, leading me toward the growing crowd gathering around the stage.
“Esteemed guests,” a senior council member began, his voice resonating through the sound system. “This gathering serves two purposes. First, to strengthen the bonds between our packs. Second, to address several recent, grievous attacks on our kind, perpetrated by what we believe is an organized group of Rogues.”
Murmurs rippled through the crowd. I tensed, already aware of these incidents through my connection to the pack hospital. The casualties had been horrific.
“Now is the time for unity,” the council member continued. “We expect all packs to stand with us, as none will
remain untouched by these attacks for long.”
An Alpha from the back called out, “We know nothing about them. What rank are they?”
