Chapter 16
“It’s just the crowd,” I said, gesturing to the packed ballroom. “I’m not used to so many Alphas in one place.”
Kieran nodded, though doubt lingered in his eyes. He reached for two glasses of red wine from a passing server and handed one to me.
“This might help,” he said. “The vintage is excellent.”
I took a small sip, grateful for the rich liquid that helped settle my nerves. As I scanned the room over the rim of my glass, I overheard a group of young female werewolves nearby.
“That’s him,” one whispered excitedly. “Dr. Eldreth Frostwhisper–the greatest healer of our generation.”
My attention immediately shifted to where they were looking. Across the ballroom stood a handsome young man, perhaps in his mid–twenties.
“I need to meet him,” I said to Kieran. “Just for a moment.”
Kieran followed my gaze. “The famous doctor? I thought you might. Go ahead, I’ll wait here.”
I made my way across the room, carefully avoiding the section where I’d last seen Tristan. When I reached the doctor, I waited for a natural pause in his conversation before approaching.
“Good evening, Dr. Frostwhisper. Might I have a moment of your time?”
He turned, relief flickering across his features at the interruption. “Of course, I’d be delighted.” His smile was genuine, without the calculating assessment I’d grown accustomed to from high–ranking wolves.
“I’ve been following your research,” I said. “Your work on healing protocols for weakened wolves is groundbreaking.”
For the first time, genuine interest sparked in his eyes. “You’re familiar with my work on spiritual healing techniques?”
I nodded. “I completed my medical degree over the past five years and serve as a healer for the Moonshade Pack. I’ve always aspired to develop healing abilities like yours.”
“Moonshade Pack?” He studied me more carefully. “You must be-”
“Just a healer,” I interrupted quickly, not wanting my identity revealed.
Eldreth smiled knowingly but didn’t press. ‘I’d like to invite you to dinner sometime. Perhaps we could discuss potential collaboration.”
“It would be my honor,” I replied sincerely.
After exchanging contact information, I excused myself and turned to make my way back to Kieran. But as I reached the center of the ballroom, familiar faces blocked my path.

Chapter 16
The women from Silverblood who had confronted me earlier stood before me.
“How dare you show your face here so shamelessly?” the taller one hissed, loud enough for nearby guests to hear.
“We didn’t tear you apart earlier only out of respect for our Alpha.”
People around us began to stare, conversations faltering as attention shifted to our confrontation. I stood my
ground, refusing to be intimidated, even as my heart raced with anxiety.
“You worthless-”
“Shut up! Who gave you the audacity to speak to her this way?”
The women froze, their faces paling as they turned toward the source of the command. Alpha Fenris Wolfbane stood several feet away, his imposing figure radiating authority despite his age.
“We apologize, Alpha,” they mumbled in unison, heads bowed low before they scattered instantly, all aggression
evaporating. Fenris’s jaw tightened as he watched them flee before his attention shifted to me.
“Lysandra,” he said, his expression softening.
