Chapter 160
Pain pulsed through my skull as consciousness returned. Cold dampness seeped through my dress, which was now torn and filthy. I blinked, trying to make sense of my surroundings.
Trees. Water. The smell of pine and algae. I was lying on muddy ground beside what appeared to be a lake, deep in some forest I didn’t recognize.
“She’s awake,” a gruff voice announced.
With effort, I pushed myself to a sitting position. Three men circled me–rough–looking rogues with the unmistakable wild energy of wolves who’d been cast out from their packs. The one standing closest to me was the scarred wolf from the hot springs, his face permanently marked by Tristan’s claws.
“Looks like you recognize us.” He touched the jagged scars running down his cheek. “I have your hero to thank for this face. But it seems he won’t be playing the hero tonight.“.
“Let me go,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the fear churning in my stomach. “You’re making a terrible mistake.
“Oh no, we’re not making any mistake.” His eyes raked over me with naked hunger. “Tonight, you belong to us.”
I glanced around, assessing my situation. The lake blocked escape in one direction. Three rogues surrounded me on the other sides. My dress and heels weren’t exactly made for combat or running through a forest.
But I was far from helpless.
“You won’t get away with this,” I warned, slowly rising to my feet. “My brother will hunt you down.”
“Your brother won’t find us. Not until we’re done with you. The scarred rogue grabbed my arm roughly.
I yanked my arm free, disgust washing over me. “Don’t touch me.”
He laughed, his companions joining in. “What are you going to do about it, princess?”
I remained silent, my attention shifting to the lake beside us. The moon was nearly full tonight, its light reflecting perfectly on the still water. I moved closer to the edge, my gaze fixed on the rippling surface.
“What’s wrong? Nothing to say?” The scarred rogue mocked. “Too scared to speak?”
“Just looking at my reflection,” I replied calmly. “It’s been a long time since I shifted.”
“What are you babbling about?” He took a step toward me, then froze when his companion gasped.
“Wait–what’s that?” One of the other rogues pointed toward the lake, his voice suddenly trembling.
In the moonlit water, where my human reflection should have been, a different form took shape–a wolf with dark purple fur, its coat shimmering with blue points of light like embedded stars. The sight was both beautiful and terrifying, even to
“Holy shit! That’s… that’s a purple Alpha wolf.” The third rogue took several steps back, his face drain
“That’s impossible!” The scarred leader shook his head violently. “This must be some kind of illusion!”

Chapter 160
“Are you using some kind of magic?” The youngest rogue’s voice cracked with fear. “Are you a witch? This can’t be real
“The ancient scrolls were true,” the third rogue whispered, eyes wide with terror. “She’s the one blessed by the Moon Goddess–the wolfless one from the prophecy…”
I turned from the lake to face them, feeling a strange calmness wash over me. Power surged through my veins, a sensation I hadn’t allowed myself to experience in years.
“Finished with your nonsense?” My voice had changed, taking on a dangerous edge,
“Please, we thought you were just–just a weak female under Alpha protection- the scarred wolf stammered.
“Weak?” I laughed coldly. “Last time at the hot springs, you thought I needed Tristan to protect me. What about now?”
“We–we didn’t know you had this power. If we had known, we would never have touched you.”
“What were you planning to do to me? Sell me to some border Alpha? Or enjoy yourselves first?”
“Please forgive us…” The scarred leader fell to his knees, the other two quickly following suit.
I watched them groveling before me, thinking of all the times I’d hidden my true strength. With Tristan, I’d played the role of the weak, submissive wife–partly because it was expected, partly because I feared what he might do if he discovered my
true nature.
But tonight, I was done hiding.
“I’ll give you a chance,” I said softly, a smile spreading across my face. “Run.”
“Please, we’ll never-”
“Too late. Run fast, and maybe I won’t catch you. If I catch any of you, you’ll taste my anger.”
They hesitated, exchanging terrified glances.
“RUN!” I roared, my voice carrying the command of an Alpha.
They scrambled to their feet and bolted in different directions, crashing through the underbrush in blind panic.
I closed my eyes, letting the change sweep over me. Bones shifted, muscles stretched, and my skin gave way to thick fur. When I opened my eyes again, the world had transformed–sharper scents, clearer sounds, and a heightened awareness of every living thing around me.
The scarred leader had chosen to run along the lakeshore. Foolish. I tracked him easily, my purple–furred form a shadow among shadows. He glanced back once, saw me gaining on him, and tried to change direction.
Too late.
I lunged, teeth sinking into his leg. He screamed, a sound that quickly turned to gurgling as my jaws found his throat. It
was over in seconds.
The second rogue had gotten further, thinking the density of the forest would slow me down. He didn’t understand that this was my element. I found him trying to climb a tree, his movements clumsy with terror.
