Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155

Kieran’s brow furrowed in confusion. Why are you protecting him?

I’m not protecting him,I insisted, though the words felt hollow even to my own ears. I’m protecting all of us. You saw how he looked at Alaric in that meeting. He’s planning something, Kieran. Something dangerous.

All the more reason to tell your brother,Kieran argued.

I shook my head, pressing a hand against my throbbing temple. Not yet. I need time to think.

Kieran studied me for a long moment, his expression a mixture of concern and something elsesomething that looked disturbingly like suspicion.

Sometimes I don’t understand you, Lysandra,he said quietly. After everything that man did to you, why give him even a

moment’s consideration?

I had no answer to that. No answer I was willing to voice, anyway.

Let’s go back,I said instead, wrapping my arms around myself. I need to change before anyone sees me like this.

As we walked in silence toward my quarters, one thought kept circling in my mind: Tristan had mentioned the twins. He’d asked why I’d kept them from him, as ifas if he believed they were his.

But that was impossible. He’d seen the DNA test results himself. He knew they weren’t his children. So why the sudden

interest? Why now, after all these years?

In the privacy of my bedroom, I stood before the mirror, examining where the bite mark had been. The puncture wounds

were already closing, the skin knitting itself together with remarkable speed.

I wet a cloth and carefully wiped away the dried blood. Where there had been deep teeth marks just minutes ago, now only faint pink lines remained, already fading before my eyes.

A knock at my door startled me. I quickly pulled on a highnecked sweater, making sure the bite was completely hidden.

Come in,I called, striving for a normal tone.

Alaric entered, his expression triumphant. Well, Lyss, I’d say that went rather well, wouldn’t you?

I forced a smile, though inside I was still reeling from my encounter with Tristan. You were quitedirect.

He laughed, dropping into the armchair by the window. Did you see his face? The great Alpha Tristan, humiliated in front of all the major packs. I’ve been waiting years for that moment.

You pushed him too far, Ric,I said quietly. Tristan isn’t the type to forget such things.

Let him remember,Alaric shrugged, utterly unconcerned. What’s he going to do? Start a war? Even he’s not that stupid.

I thought of the cold purpose in Tristan’s eyes when he’d promised to return. The certainty in his voice when he’d said no one could stop him.

You don’t know him like I do,I warned, moving to sit across from my brother. He won’t let this go. He’ll find a way to

make you pay.

And I’ll be waiting,Alaric replied, confidence radiating from every word. He made you suffer for years, Lyes. It’s about time someone showed him what it feels like.

I looked away, uncomfortable with the venom in my brother’s voice. Yes, Tristan had hurt me deeply, but this vendetta between them felt differentdarker, more dangerous,
