Tristan’s POV

“These terms are acceptable.” I signed the final page with more force than necessary, the expensive pen leaving deep impressions in the paper. Alpha Rowan watched with a satisfied gleam in his eyes as I slid the contract back across the polished table.

“Excellent. With Silverblood’s warriors at our borders, Mistwood’s territory will finally be secure.” Alpha Rowan’s voice carried the relieved tone of a man who’d just offloaded a significant burden. He gathered the documents, smoothing a hand over the embossed letterhead before tucking them into a leather portfolio.

I leaned back in my chair, rolling tension from my shoulders. The meeting had stretched for hours, each clause dissected and reassembled to serve both our interests. Victory tasted hollow. This project meant nothing to me beyond its purpose as bait–a tool to draw her out.

Rowan smiled, turning to his younger brother who sat watching our exchange with calculating eyes. “Liam will oversee the implementation. He’s new to leadership but quick to learn.”

I assessed the younger Alpha briefly. His eyes held the sharp intelligence of someone who made few mistakes, though they lacked the hard–earned wisdom that only came from failures and survival. “Very good, Alpha Tristan,” Rowan’s voice pulled me back to the present. “Thank you for this partnership. I hope you’ll take good care of my brother.”

“Of course.” I stood, buttoning my suit jacket.

“Will you join us tonight? We’re hosting a small celebration for the successful negotiations.” Rowan rose as well, gesturing toward the window where staff could be seen preparing an outdoor venue.

“She’s coming too?” The question slipped out before I could stop it, voice dropping to something barely above a whisper.

Rowan’s brow furrowed. “She? Who?”

“He means Lysandra,” Varian offered helpfully from where he sat, earning a glare that promised future retribution.

“Ah.” Understanding dawned on Rowan’s face. “Yes, of course. Beta Kieran confirmed Miss Ravencroft has accepted our invitation and will attend promptly.”

I raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised. Why would she come to celebrate my victory over her? Losing this deal should have crushed her–I’d made sure of it.

Is she not heartbroken? Why would she attend a celebration for my victory?

“Miss Ravencroft is quite remarkable,” Rowan continued, misreading my silence as interest. “Had you not put forward your proposal, we likely would have awarded her the contract. She has sharp instincts for negotiation.”
