Everyone in the room turned around, only to see Declan enter, his icy gaze fixed on Phoebe, his anger flashing in his eyes.
Phoebe was surprised to see Declan here, and her eyes flickered with shock.
But after just a moment, she casually took a sip from her glass and ignored him.
Seeing her nonchalance, Declan’s face turned a shade of furious livid. He marched over, grabbed her hand, and started dragging her out.
Cora quickly stepped in front of him and confronted, “Mr. Richardson, what do you think you’re doing?”
Declan shot Cora a cold look and barked, “Step fuckin‘ aside!”
Cora retorted with a snort, “Pheebs is my friend, Mr. Richardson. You want to take her away? At least give us a reason?
Declan’s patience was wearing thin, and he repeated with a chilling tone, “I said STEP ASIDE!”
As the standoff continued, Phoebe, not wanting Cora to get the worst of it, spoke softly, “Cora, it’s okay. I’ll be back soon.”
Cora looked worried, and she muttered, “Pheebs…”
Phoebe reassured Cora, “Don’t worry, he won’t do anything to me.”
No sooner had she spoken than Declan pulled her towards the door. Phoebe stumbled, nearly falling, which only fueled Cora’s anger. She complained in her mind, ‘Phoebe must’ve been blind to fall for a guy like Declan who doesn’t have a gentlemanly bone in his body.
Once they were alone in the hallway, Declan released Phoebe and snapped, “Phoebe, do you even realize you’re married? Yesterday it was Mason, and now you’re here playing with other guys. Do you remember you have a husband?”
Rubbing her reddened and sore wrist, Phoebe replied coolly, “If you keep stalling the divorce procedure, this will become a regular occurrence.”
Declan scoffed, “If you keep messing around with other men, you’ll regret it. You heard me.”
Phoebe let out a small laugh, not the least bit intimidated. She retorted, “I’d like to see how you’d make me regret it. Are you going to use the Greene family to threaten me?
“Don’t forget, your beloved Jennifer is also a Greene. If you hurt my family, it’d upset her. Can you bear to see her heartbroken?”
Declan immediately furrowed his brows, not because of the mention of Jennifer, but because he realized if Phoebe really left him, he would have no leverage to make her stay.
He instantly felt panic at the thought, yet his fleeting panic was soon replaced by immense fury. He shouted again, “I’ve told you, there’s nothing going on between Jennie and me.”
Phoebe, clearly annoyed and impatient with his explanation, cut him off. “You really don’t owe me any explanations. I couldn’t care less about what’s going on between you two. I just want to know when you plan on signing the divorce papers.”
Seeing Phoebe’s detached demeanor, he became more agitated. He thought bitterly to himself, ‘All she talks about is divorce the moment we meet. I am trying to explain myself, and she doesn’t care at all!
The more he thought about her recent atittude toward him, the more enraged he became. In a fit of anger, he suddenly pulled her close and kissed her, aiming to silence her sharp words.

Chapter 9
Phoebe, caught off guard, froze for a few seconds as if she had an electric shock.
Once she regained her senses, she pushed Declan away and slapped him hard. The sound of the slap echoed in the air, sending the tension plummeting to freezing temperatures.
With a face cold as ice, Declan glared at Phoebe as she wiped her mouth with disgust, which only infuriated him more.
He snarled, “Keep wiping again, Phoebe, you’ll see!”
Phoebe gave him a cold look and said with a calm face. “If you were bitten by a dog, you’d probably be taking a shower right
now.”
“You!” Declan was seething, and he felt a mix of anger and unfamiliarity when he looked at Phoebe.
