Jennifer searched Phoebe’s face for any trace of anger or jealousy, but to her disappointment, there was none. Phoebe simply watched her with a calm, emotionless gaze.

Jennifer let out a scornful chuckle, looking at Phoebe with disdain, and continued, “Do you really think that by acting all magnanimous, Declan will fall in love with you? Keep dreaming!”

Phoebe remained composed and said slowly, “Jennifer, you’re pitiful.”

“What did you just say?!” Jennifer’s eyes widened in fury and disbelief at Phoebe’s words.

“But isn’t that the truth?” Phoebe’s tone remained steady. “Every conversation you have revolves around Declan, as if your entire existence is defined by him.”

Looking at Jennifer now, Phoebe couldn’t help but wonder if this was how others had seen her for the past three years- pathetic and pitiful.

“You’re the pitiful one, Phoebe! So what if Dad and Mom brought you back? No one in this family actually cares about you. Even your own husband doesn’t love you. If anyone here is pathetic, it’s you!” Jennifer shouted.

Phoebe chuckled softly. Once upon a time, she had foolishly hoped for just a bit of love from the Greene family and Declan. But now, she no longer cared.

Loving herself was far more important. Seeking love from others would only keep her stuck in self–doubt.

“Say whatever you want. If you can convince Declan to divorce me, I might even thank you.” With that, Phoebe turned and walked away. But as she rounded the corner, she suddenly came to a halt.

Declan stood there, tall and imposing, looking at her with unreadable emotion in his eyes.

Phoebe’s heart skipped a beat. Declan had always hated it when she brought up divorce. Just as she braced herself for his anger, he unexpectedly turned and walked away without a word.

Sensing his irritation, Phoebe frowned slightly but chose not to follow him.

The moment she stepped back into the living room, Liam approached her and said in a low voice, “Your grandmother is in the side hall. She wants to have a word with you. Go see her.”

Phoebe nodded and made her way over.

This time, Roselyn’s demeanor was strikingly different from before–she was wearing a bright, loving smile. “Phoebe, come, sit by me.”

Phoebe took a seat, leaving an empty spot between them. Her expression remained indifferent as she asked, “What is it, Grandma?”

Roselyn exchanged a few pleasantries before steering the conversation in another direction. “You’ve been married to Declan for three years now. Since he’s treating you well, you should seize the opportunity and have a child with him. Once you do, your position will be unshakable.”

Phoebe was surprised. Not long ago, the Greene family had been desperate for her to divorce Declan so Jennifer could marry him instead. But they had already changed their tune. She had to admit, she was impressed.

“Grandma, I actually have something to tell you as well,” said Phoebe.

“Oh? What is it?” asked Roselyn.

The smile on Roselyn’s face froze, and a cold glint flashed in her eyes. “Phoebe, I always thought you were a smart child. How could you say something so foolish?”

Phoebe met her gaze calmly and said, “Me divorcing Declan would only benefit the Greene family. Compared to me, who was brought back to the family at sixteen, Jennifer would be much more dedicated to helping the family if she were to marry him.”

Roselyn hadn’t expected her to lay everything out so plainly. After a moment of silence, she finally spoke. “Do you truly mean that?”
