As they stepped into the living room, Phoebe looked at Declan and said, “I’m thinking of making some spaghetti. Would you like some?”

The fridge was stocked with fresh ingredients the housekeeper regularly bought. Phoebe grabbed garlic, basil, tomato sauce, and a box of spaghetti before heading into the kitchen.

She boiled the spaghetti until tender, then sautéed garlic in oil. After adding tomato sauce and basil, she let it simmer. Finally, she mixed in the pasta, coating it well, and served it hot.

Carrying the spaghetti out of the kitchen, she glanced around but didn’t see Declan anywhere, so she walked toward the study. Just as she reached the door, she heard him say sternly from inside, “Keep this under wraps. No one can find out.”

After hanging up the phone, Declan turned and saw Phoebe standing at the door, looking at him. “The spaghetti is ready. Let’s eat,” she said.

Declan put his phone away and followed her to the dining room. They sat across from each other. Phoebe lowered her head and ate in silence.

“You don’t have any questions for me?” Declan asked.

Phoebe paused for a second, then looked up at him. “If you wanted to tell me, you would, whether I asked or not. And if you don’t want to, asking won’t change anything.”

“You can ask. If it’s something I can tell you, I will.”

Meeting his serious gaze, Phoebe was silent for a few seconds before saying nonchalantly, “Let’s eat first. The spaghetti won’t taste good if it gets too soft.”

After finishing her meal, she had just stood up when Declan took the plate from her hands and said, “I’ll wash the dishes.”

Phoebe didn’t refuse and simply turned to go upstairs to her bedroom.

The next morning, Phoebe left for work early. By the time Cora came to speak with her, she had already gone through all the documents that had been pending from the day before.

“Ms. Greene, you had an appointment with the president of the Richardson Group at ten this morning,” said Cora.

Phoebe pressed her lips together and looked at Cora. “You go instead. Don’t accept any acquisition terms they propose.”

Cora was momentarily surprised and thought, ‘Ms. Greene was planning to meet with the president of the Richardson Group before. Why the sudden change of heart?‘ But she didn’t question it. She simply nodded and said, “Understood.”

“Good. These documents are all signed. Take them with you,” said Phoebe. She continued working after Cora left, and before she knew it, it was already noon.

Just as she was about to go grab lunch, Cora returned and said excitedly, “Ms. Greene, you won’t believe what the Richardson Group offered for Miracle Youth. If I weren’t so deeply attached to this company, I might have given in and sold it on the spot.”

“Three hundred million dollars! Can you believe it?!” Cora exclaimed.

Phoebe frowned and thought, ‘Miracle Youth is worth a hundred million at most. Why would the Richardson Group offer three times its market value?‘ She then asked, “Did you ask Declan why?”

“I did, but he wouldn’t say.”

“I see. If anyone from the Richardson Group comes to discuss the acquisition again, just reject them outright.”
