His Regret Deception And Betrayal novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

My stomach still ached faintly, and the intermittent cramps caused beads of sweat to form on my forehead.

I gritted my teeth and ultimately decided to go to the hospital by myself.

The doctor diagnosed me with acute enteritis and said I needed an IV drip.

The cold liquid flowed into my veins through the needle, and I dozed off in the hospital bed, having many bizarre dreams that night.

The next morning, I felt a bit more energetic and hurried back home.

As I opened the door, I was stunned.

Jaxon was sitting on the sofa, his eyes bloodshot and a stubble of dark beard on his chin, clearly showing he hadn’t slept all night.

Seeing me return, he stood up abruptly, quickly walked over to me, and asked anxiously, Elowen, where have you been?

His voice was hoarse, filled with exhaustion and worry. I called you so many times last night. Why didn’t you answer? Do you have any idea how worried I was?

It then occurred to me that my phone was in my bag. I quickly took it out and saw that it had automatically shut down due to a lack of battery.

I lowered my head guiltily. I’m sorry. My phone ran out of power.”

Jaxon looked at my pale face and the medical tape on the back of my hand and immediately understood. You went to the hospital by yourself last night?

His voice was filled with selfreproach and heartache.

He supported my shoulders, his voice trembling slightly. Why were you so foolish? Why didn’t you call me? Do you have any idea how worried I was?

He was incoherent, his eyes reddening.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

I’m just glad you’re okay.” He hugged me tightly.

He helped me to the bedroom and made me lie down.

You should sleep some more and rest well. Don’t think about anything else.” His voice was as gentle as if he were coaxing a baby girl.

I’m fine. Don’t worry.I struggled to get up, but he held me down.

No, you have to rest.” His tone was firm and brooked no argument.

But I didn’t ask for leave,I still wanted to insist on going to work.

As a corporate drone, I tried not to take leave whenever possible; after all, taking leave meant losing money.

yet.

Listen to me, okay?Jaxon emphasized. I’ll take care of the leave request, and I promise, you won’t lose any money

He pushed me into the bedroom, took off my shoes and socks, and after I lay down, he gently tucked the blanket around me, his tender actions as if he were handling a fragile treasure.

Rest well,he whispered, then turned and walked out, closing the door quietly behind him.

Not long after, my phone rang. It was my boss, Sophie Baker.

I pressed the answer button, but before I could say anything, her rapidfire voice came through the receiver. Elowen, how are you feeling? Are you alright?

Hey, don’t worry about the company. I’ve already taken care of everything. Just take a few days off and rest easy, like you’re on vacation,Sophie said in an unusually warm tone.

Mr. Baker, I’ll be fine after just one day. I’ll come to the office tomorrow,I said.

Sophie continued, Elowen, it’s okay. Rest assured. Your salary and bonuses will not be affected.

Also, Elowen, since you have such good connections, why didn’t you mention it? You came to our small company instead of using such great connections.Sophie’s voice carried a hint of regret and a bit of flattery. Alright, I won’t disturb your rest. Get well soon.

She hung up hurriedly.

I sat on the bed, holding my phone, and realized that Sophie must have misunderstood something.

She probably thought I was Jaxon’s mistress.

I slowly closed my eyes and sighed deeply.

Once I confirmed Jaxon’s true identity, many details that I had previously overlooked became crystal clear, flashing through my mind like scenes from a movie.

For example, the seemingly ordinary lighter he used was actually a limitededition Zippo, with a small diamond embedded in it that would refract dazzling light in the sun.

I had once teased him, saying that it was just a lighter and didn’t need to be so showy.

Now I realized that I just didn’t recognize its value.

There was also the latenight snacks he often brought me, which were ordered from a restaurant that only accepted reservations and had exorbitant prices, with an average consumption of over 300 dollars per person.

At the time, I thought it was a snack stall near his workplace, and I thought the taste was good, so I asked him to bring it often.

And last month, when I accidentally lost an important company document and was in a panic, almost getting fired, Matthew just casually made a phone call, and the problem was miraculously solved.

At that time, I thought he had asked someone for help and even suggested that he find time to invite the person out for a meal to thank them.

All these little things, like small pebbles, were now hurting my heart.
