Chapter 47: Shattered Bonds
Chapter 47: Shattered Bonds
(Elena’s POV)
My hand remained frozen on the door handle, unable to believe what Richard Blackthorne had just said. The
words echoed in my mind like a death knell.
“Take her back.” Not “take her in.” Take her back.
Inside the Intensive Healing Ward, the conversation between my adoptive parents continued. Their voices
carried through the thin door, each word cutting deeper than the last.
“You’re blaming me again!” Patricia’s voice cracked with years of suppressed pain. “You abandoned our biological daughter when she was born!”
My heart stopped. Biological daughter?
“I felt like a tool for producing heirs for the Blackthorne family,” Patricia continued, her voice breaking. “When
I lost my daughter, I knew the feeling of losing a child. That’s why I agreed to take Elena back.”
Richard’s voice was cold. “That was different. Elena isn’t our blood.”
“She needed a family!” Patricia sobbed. “I couldn’t bear to see another child suffer like our daughter did.”
The world tilted around me. Everything I had suspected, every moment of feeling like an outsider, suddenly made perfect sense.
Patricia’s outburst subsided as she noticed me standing in the doorway. Her face went pale.
“Elena,” she whispered.
I walked in, forcing my expression to remain calm while my heart shattered into pieces. “How is David’s
condition?”
Patricia struggled to speak. “The surgery went well. He’s stable now.”
I nodded, then looked directly at both of them. “So I was right all these years. I’m not your biological child.”
The silence stretched between us like a chasm. Richard couldn’t meet my eyes.
“The doubts that accumulated in my heart for so many years are finally resolved,” I said quietly.
Patricia stepped forward, guilt written across her face. “Elena, I’m sorry. I always wanted to care for you properly.”
Her voice trembled. “It wasn’t intentional to neglect you. In the Blackthorne family, I was also at a disadvantage. I couldn’t help myself.”
I stared at her, processing years of feeling like a burden. “At least now I understand why David always came first.”
(Marcus’s POV)
At the Blackwood Consortium, Amber Stone escorted Chief Morrison to my Command Chamber. I stood by the window, overlooking the Northern Territory’s sprawling landscape.

The city lights twinkled below, but my mind was elsewhere. Elena’s accusations echoed in my thoughts.
Chief Morrison entered, his face pale with anxiety. “Alpha Marcus, you requested to see me.”
I turned slowly, my golden eyes fixing on him. “A case of malicious injury within your jurisdiction has been
neglected. Explain.”
His face went white. “Alpha, I was initially unaware of the incident.”
“Unaware?” My voice dropped dangerously low. “A suspect was beaten unconscious in your facility, and you
were unaware?”
Chief Morrison swallowed hard. “When I discovered it, I attempted to conceal the incident. I feared
repercussions from higher authorities.”
I stepped closer, my Alpha presence filling the room. “Your dereliction of duty nearly cost a young wolf his
life.”
“I understand the severity-”
“You have two days,” I cut him off. “Provide me with a complete explanation of how this happened and who
was responsible.”
Chief Morrison nodded frantically. “Yes, Alpha. Two days.”
(Elena’s POV)
As night fell, I stepped out of the Intensive Healing Ward after relieving Patricia. The hallway was dimly lit, shadows dancing across the walls.
Marcus stood there with his Elite Guards, their imposing figures blocking the corridor. My heart clenched
with suspicion.
“What are you doing here?” I confronted him directly.
His golden eyes met mine. “I came to check on David’s condition.”
“Another scheme involving Sophia Rivers?” I asked coldly.
Marcus’s jaw tightened. “I had nothing to do with David’s accident.”
I laughed bitterly. “Of course you’d deny it. But we both know who benefits from David’s suffering.”
“Elena-”
“Don’t.” I held up my hand. “Sophia wanted David punished, and somehow he ends up beaten unconscious.
