Chapter 46: Blood and Betrayal
Chapter 46: Blood and Betrayal
(Elena’s POV)
The moment I answered the call, Patricia Blackthorne’s heart–wrenching cries filled the phone. “David… something happened to him!”
I was stunned. The phone nearly slipped from my trembling fingers.
My mind went blank, filled only with the echo of ringing in my ears. I rushed to the emergency room of the
Northern Territory Central Healing Institute.
Patricia was sitting on a chair, crying hysterically. Richard stood beside her with a grave expression.
In just a few days, Richard’s hair had turned noticeably white. He looked a decade older.
I stopped Pack Nurse Rachel and asked urgently, “What happened in the emergency room?”
The nurse’s face was pale. “It’s a case of severe intracranial hemorrhage caused by a beating. Dr. Harrison Mitchell is currently performing emergency surgery.”
Hearing that David was beaten in the Territorial Enforcement Station, I couldn’t believe it. How could this
happen under official supervision?
I stumbled into the Surgical Chamber. The healers initially tried to stop me.
“You can’t go in there!” one called out.
Upon recognizing me, they instead explained medical protocol. “Healers are not allowed to operate on their
own family members according to medical ethics. You need to trust Dr. Mitchell.”
I looked at the person on the operating table. My brother lay there so still, so vulnerable.
“I just wanted to help,” I mumbled.
Dr. Mitchell’s Medical Apprentice stepped forward. “As a healer, you need to remain calm in critical
situations. Do you even look like a healer right now?”
I was taken aback. My panicked heart gradually calmed as I saw the stable heart rate on the monitor.
“I apologize for losing my composure,” I said quietly.
Understanding my situation, the apprentice nodded. “Please wait outside. We’ll take good care of hi.
Patricia stood up shakily when I emerged. “How is David’s condition?”
I forced strength into my voice. “He will be fine. Dr. Mitchell is the best neurosurgeon we have.”
Patricia, somewhat calmed, sobbed. “How could such an accident happen with people watching in the Territorial Enforcement Station? How did they dare to do such a thing?”
Richard’s face grew even more serious. As if he had anticipated something like this.
I realized who was responsible. My blood turned to ice as the truth hit me.
I headed straight for the Steel Ascent.

(Sophia’s POV)
Inside a Recovery Ward, Marcus casually flipped through a magazine while sitting on a chair. I drank the soup
he had brought, my eyes filled with smiles.
“Thank you for being here,” I said sweetly. “This soup is delicious.”
Marcus replied without looking up. “I simply got you the Moonhaven Estate’s soup you liked.”
My smile faltered slightly. But I still expressed my gratitude. “You remembered my preferences.*
Marcus curtly acknowledged my thanks. “You’ve been frightened by recent events.”
I leaned forward slightly. “I’m not afraid as long as you’re here.”
(Elena’s POV)
Standing outside the door, I overheard their conversation. Thinking of David’s situation, my face darkened.
My emotions were on the verge of exploding. I pushed open the door.
Sophia’s smile froze. Marcus watched me silently.
Sophia forced a smile. “Elena, why are you here?”
Without a word, I walked to the bedside table. I grabbed the remaining soup and threw it at Sophia’s face.
Marcus stood up and grabbed my wrist. His eyes filled with anger.
Sophia, initially stunned, screamed. “Elena, you’re crazy!” Soup dripped down her face and stained her hospital gown.
Ignoring Sophia, I glared at Marcus. “Do you feel sorry for her?”
Sensing the hatred in my eyes, Marcus frowned. “Let’s talk outside.”
“No.” My voice was deadly quiet.
Marcus warned me. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”
My eyes bloodshot, I broke free from his grip. I slapped him across the face with all my strength.
“I want to ask you what you’re doing!” I screamed.
The sound echoed through the recovery ward. “You don’t allow a fair judgment! Why are you forcing me?”
My voice cracked with rage. “David was beaten so badly in the Territorial Enforcement Station that he’s in the
hospital! Are you responsible?”
I stepped closer to Marcus. “Who else would dare to do such a thing without your permission?”
Tears streamed down my face. “You want David to pay with his life to appease Sophia! Even after he accepted the sentence!”
Marcus was shocked. His golden eyes widened in genuine surprise.
I wiped away my tears and smiled sarcastically after calming down. “Remarkable acting skills.”
I pointed at both of them. “No one stopped the beating in the Territorial Enforcement Station. Why?”
My voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “If David dies, I will drag you all down to hell with me.”
