Chapter 158: He Agrees to Sever the Mate Bond
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I never imagined I would hear Marcus personally admit he was worried about me. The words hung in the air between us like a fragile bridge.
I withdrew my gaze and laughed bitterly. “Only now you know to worry about me, don’t you think it’s already too late?”
He stared at my face intently, his golden eyes searching for something. “As long as you’re willing, nothing is too late.”
I smiled back at him, the expression feeling hollow. “But I’m not willing.”
Marcus’s features visibly tightened. His jaw clenched as he remained silent for a long time.
The stall owner approached with the bill, breaking our tense moment. “That’ll be 120 yuan total.”
Marcus quickly pulled out his wallet before I could reach for mine. He paid without hesitation.
The stall owner looked at us both and smiled genuinely. “You two make such a perfect couple!”
Marcus opened his mouth to explain, but I interrupted him sharply. “We’re just friends and could never be together.”
I stood up abruptly and left without looking back.
(God’s POV)
The next day at the Whitmore Family Estate in Riverside City, Dorothea Whitmore pressed her ear against the master suite door. Inside, Samuel Whitmore and Adrian Whitmore were having an urgent conversation.
“Father, the paternity test results were tampered with,” Adrian revealed quietly. “I suspect Sandy Parker was
involved somehow.”
Samuel’s voice was strained with disbelief. “How is that possible?”
“Think about it,” Adrian pressed on. “Despite Mother’s mental confusion, she refuses to acknowledge Sandy as her daughter.”
“But she shows extraordinary affection for Elena, even more than she shows me.”
Samuel fell silent, processing this revelation.
Adrian continued his argument. “Elena was adopted by the Blackthorne family. More importantly, she has Rh–negative blood.”
The words hit Samuel like lightning. “Rh–negative blood?”
“The Whitmore family has carried this hereditary trait for generations,” Adrian said meaningfully. “You know what this means.”
Samuel’s breathing became labored. “Elena might be our real daughter?”
“We need another paternity test,” Adrian declared firmly. “This time, I’ll personally oversee every step.”
Samuel nodded slowly, the weight of possibility crushing down on him.
Outside the door, Sandy Parker’s face went pale with terror. She had heard every damning word.
Her hands shaking, she dialed Sophia Rivers’s number frantically.
“Sophia, they know!” she whispered in panic. “They’re going to do another test!”
Sophia’s laughter was cold and calculating. “So you’re not the real Whitmore daughter after all.
“Elena has the matching blood type,” Sandy continued desperately. “She’s going to take everything from me!“.
Sophia’s voice turned thoughtful. “Elena with rare blood type… I remember Marcus searching desperately for
someone with special blood that day.”
“What are you thinking?” Sandy asked nervously.
“If Elena were to disappear due to some accident while in the Northern Territory,” Sophia suggested casually,
“no one would ever know the truth.”
Though Sophia claimed she was just speaking hypothetically, she knew Heidi Cross would act on the
suggestion to protect her wealth and status.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I returned to the Blackwood Ancestral Manor after receiving Margaret Blackwood’s call. The elderly matriarch
waited for me in the Meditation Sanctuary.
“Elena, dear,” Margaret began gently. “I must apologize for Isabella’s inexcusable behavior yesterday.”
I sat across from her, feeling the weight of our conversation. “It’s not your fault, Grandmother.”
Margaret studied my face carefully. “I need to ask you directly – do you truly want to sever the mate bond with
Marcus?”
The question hung heavy between us. I could see the pain in her eyes.
“Despite my reluctance to see you both separate,” she continued, “I promise to respect your decision.”
Tears gathered in my eyes as I met her gaze. “My fate with Marcus has ended, Grandmother.”
My voice broke slightly. “I’m satisfied with having been your granddaughter–in–law for six years.”
Margaret’s shoulders sagged with sadness. “Then I will convince Marcus to sever your mate bond.”
As I left the meditation sanctuary and walked through the manor courtyard, Marcus’s voice called out to me
from under the ancient oak tree.
“Elena, wait.”
I turned to face him, my heart pounding. He had clearly overheard our conversation.
“Do you truly want to sever our mate bond?” he asked once more.
The pain in his voice nearly broke my resolve. But I had carried this secret for too long.
“Marcus, I need to tell you something,” I began, my voice trembling. “I was the real per during our childhood kidnapping.”
His face went completely still. “What?”
who saved you
“The impostor stole my credit as your savior,” I continued, the words pouring out like a dam bursting. “The scars on your back are from when you protected me in the thorn bushes during our escape.”
Marcus stared at me in stunned silence. I could see the memories slowly returning to his fever–damaged
