Chapter 39: The Breaking Point
Chapter 39: The Breaking Point
(Elena’s POV)
“Let me go first.” I struggled against Marcus’s grip, my voice barely a whisper.
Realizing my resistance, Marcus pursed his lips. He seemed unwilling to see me looking as if I was ready to
die, and turned me over.
I was even more panicked as I lay on the cold marble countertop of the bar. The surface chilled my skin through my clothes.
“Marcus!” I cried out in desperation.
“Shut up.” Marcus’s kiss landed on the back of my neck, hot and scalding.
I shuddered. The more forceful he was, the more uncooperative I became. My body tensed with every touch.
Marcus turned my face, forcing me to look at him. His golden eyes burned with something dark and
possessive.
“What, that Sterling wolf is okay, but I’m not?” His words felt like a stab to my heart.
The accusation cut deeper than any physical wound. How could he think so little of me?
“Slap!” I hit him with almost all my strength.
The handsome face of the Alpha turned away. The sound echoed through the Great Hall like a gunshot.
The air instantly froze. My palm was slightly numb from the impact.
My eyes were red, and I choked on my words. “Marcus, are you not tired of always speculating about me with
such malice?”
Tears threatened to spill down my cheeks. “I know you look down on me from the bottom of your heart, but
you can choose to ignore me, just like before!”
My voice cracked with emotion. “Why do you have to trample on me?”
“If you can’t wait for me to give way, you don’t have to rush me.” I took a shaky breath. “When the time comes,
I will leave on my own.”
I turned around, desperate to escape. Marcus subconsciously reached out to grab me.
I shook him off and went into the Master Suite without looking back. The door slammed shut behind me with
finality.
I locked the door with trembling fingers. Separated by a door, I still couldn’t hold back my emotions.
I bit my hand to keep from crying out. The pain helped me focus on something other than the ache in my
chest.
(Marcus’s POV)
I burned a cigarette and took a puff. Behind the rising wisp of white smoke was my dark, comple
Chapter 39: The Breaking.
In that instant, I had the thought of explaining. But explaining what? My jealousy? My possessiveness?
Since when did she become able to affect me? Was it when Sophia parachuted into the institute?
Or was it whenever her eyes were red, that small brown tear mole always startled me?
I was certain I had never met Elena before our arranged mating. Initially, I was forced to mate with her, in a
state of giving up on myself.
The Luna wasn’t the person I wanted to mate, so anyone was fine. There was no ceremony between us
On our mating night, when I first saw her, I knew she was not simple. Not in a scheming way, but her
appearance was not simple.
Because she was the first woman besides Sophia who could make my heart palpitate. I loathed this feeling
It was as if I would betray both body and mind at any moment. The longer I spent with Elena, the more
irritated I became.
So I deliberately ignored her, distanced myself from her. But even with all my caution, I still betrayed my body.
The desires I had suppressed during my relationship with Sophia broke through on Elena. It was truly
laughable.
My eyes became increasingly deep. I didn’t even notice the cooled ash falling on the back of my hand.
She shouldn’t affect me. But she did, and that terrified me more than I cared to admit.
(Elena’s POV)
I heard the sound of the door closing outside. When I came out again, Marcus had already left.
Only half a cigarette butt was left in the ashtray. I looked down at my palm with lingering warmth.
With his Alpha temper, he probably wouldn’t be back for a while after this slap. That’s good.
At least in the time left before the one and a half months were up, I could leave in peace.
After the weekend, I returned to the Northern Territory Central Healing Institute. The familiar corridors felt
different somehow.
Passing by the Medical Storage Chamber, I suddenly heard voices coming from inside.
“No way? Healer Elena is really being kept? So her mated status is to cover up her being kept?”
“Can it be fake? Someone saw a man driving a luxury car to send her back to Moonhaven Estate.”
My steps faltered. “That’s Moonhaven Estate! One square meter costs 310,000! Can a healer’s salary afford a
house there?”
I stood outside the door, frowning slightly. I did live at Moonhaven Estate, but when did a man in a luxury car
send me back?
Could it be that someone saw me in Marcus’s car? Or worse, in Nathan’s car?
I returned to my Healing Chamber, trying to push the gossip from my mind. Just as I sat down, a family member appeared at the door with his hands behind his back.
“Are you Healer Elena?” His voice was strangely calm.
“I am.” I stood up, smiling slightly. “Are you a family member of a patient in the ward, or…”

Before I could finish speaking, the other person suddenly splashed liquid at me. I was caught off guard and didn’t dodge.
I cried out in surprise as the liquid hit my face. The burning sensation was immediate and intense.
The office was filled with a spicy smell. It was pepper spray!
The sound attracted people outside. “Healer Elena!” Rachel Thompson heard the sound and ran straight to the door.
The Pepper Spray Attacker who splashed the liquid staggered out, bumping into her. Rachel grabbed the person, shouting, “Someone, come quick!”
The other party was fierce, threatening, “If you dare to pull me again, I’ll kill you!”
Two healers and pack nurses rushed over. They also called security.
Soon the man was tackled to the ground by Security Guard Mitchell. The healer called the territorial enforcement.
Inside my Healing Chamber, I fell to the ground. My eyes burned painfully, unable to open, constantly shedding tears.
“Healer Elena!” The pack nurses and Rachel stepped into the chamber and helped me up.
The news of me being splashed with pepper spray reached Director Henry Baker’s ears. Director Baker hurriedly arrived at the Vision Healing Ward.
I had already had my eyes treated in the Vision Healing Ward, but I was still unable to open my eyes.
Rachel, who was guarding my side, slowly stood up. “Director.”
“Elena, what happened?” Director Baker’s voice was filled with concern.
I clenched the blanket. “I don’t know, I don’t recognize that person.”
“Director, the surveillance has already been investigated.” Rachel’s voice was steady. “He is not a family member of a patient in the institute, he came from outside.”
She looked at me with worry. “Fortunately it was just pepper spray, not some dangerous chemical liquid,
otherwise, Healer Elena would be done for.”
