Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Outwardly calm, Freya was inwardly freaking out. ‘I was so careful. How did she see through me?”
The atmosphere shifted. Everyone’s expressions grew subtly complex.
Especially Victor, who had just been defending Freya, fixed her with a cool gaze. “Freya,” he demanded, “be honest with me. Did you really plagiarize?”
“Victor, I didn’t plagiarize,” Freya insisted, struggling to contain her guilt while nervously gnawing at her lip.
Freya had lived with the Lambert family for over twenty years. Victor knew her habits inside out.
Victor’s expression turned even colder. “Freya, I’m so disappointed in you.”
Freya broke down sobbing uncontrollably. “I know I was wrong. The pressure was just too much. I just couldn’t come up with a good design, so i had to borrow from someone else.”
“Victor, sorry. Mom and Dad, I’m so sorry,” Freya choked out between heart–wrenching sobs, tears streaming down her face.
The next second, Freya’s eyes rolled back and she collapsed to the floor in a dead faint.
“Freya.” Victor immediately scooped her up and rushed upstairs, barking at the maid, “Get a doctor now.”
Carlos and Yana followed suit.
Skylar sighed leisurely, thinking, ‘She fainted right on cue.‘
She stayed out of the drama that followed.
Freya woke up right on cue, just after the doctor and her parents had left.
“Victor, where are Mom and Dad?” Freya asked weakly.
Victor sat in a chair, expressionless. “I told them to go back to their room and get some rest.”
Freya struggled weakly to sit up, leaning against the headboard. “Victor, I’m sorry. I lied to you.”
Victor looked at her sharply. “Why did you lie?”
Freya took several deep breaths. After a long pause, she finally spoke, “I was terrified.
“Seeing how well Skylar’s business was doing, I was terrified I’d be cast aside for being useless. I just wanted so badly to prove myself that I ended up taking the wrong path.”
Freya sobbed dramatically, her eyes swollen.
Instead of responding to her words, Victor shifted the topic and asked, “You told me before that Skylar bullied you in secret. Why didn’t you tell Mom and
Dad?”
Before he returned, Victor kept getting Freya’s tearful complaints that Skylar would secretly choke her, hit her, and yell at her, all backed up by photos.
To make matters worse, Skylar had been to jail before.
People who ended up in such a place were unlikely to be good.
Even before returning home, Victor had already formed a pretty clear impression of Skylar, all thanks to everything Freya had told him.
He couldn’t stand Skylar, who was always so hostile and taking her anger out on everyone else. He even detested her.

So when Victor saw Skylar, he didn’t show her the slightest brotherly warmth.
If Carlos and Yana hadn’t insisted he come
just to meet Skylar, he wouldn’t have even bothered.
