“Mom, I need your help with something important.” Skylar rarely ever looked this serious in front of Yana.

Yana instantly sensed something was off. “What is it?” she asked.

“Mom, I need you to call Freya and get her back here immediately. No excuses, she must return.”

“What’s going on?” Yana’s heart pounded with rising panic.

Skylar didn’t explain. She said firmly, “Just do as I say. You’ll understand everything soon enough.”

Yana called Freya.

Freya was hanging out with her friends when Yana called. She picked up casually and said, “Hey Mom, what’s up? Did you need something?”

“Freya, come home right now. There’s something we need to discuss,” Yana said.

Freya glanced at her friends, visibly conflicted. “Now? But I’m in the middle of shopping with them, it would be rude to just ditch them halfway.”

Yana’s voice was steel. “Drop what you’re doing. Come home. Now.”

Yana’s unusually stern tone set off alarm bells in Freya. She tightened her grip on the phone and asked, “Mom, what’s going on? Why do I need to come home right now?”

“Enough questions. Get home now.” Yana hung up abruptly before Freya could protest.

Freya’s face darkened, her knuckles turning white as she clutched her phone.
