Chapter 55
Freya never expected Adam to call her out on her little act of glaring at him in public and at the top of his voice..
She nearly choked on her own fury. Rolling her eyes in a poor attempt to save face, she retorted, “My eyes are just a bit irritated. I wasn’t glaring at you.”
“Really?” Adam looked at Freya, puzzled by her eye–rolling. “Aunt Freya, you look kind a creepy when you do that.”
He quietly scooted his little butt closer to Skylar and then added bluntly, “Aunt Freya, if you’re not feeling well, you should go see a doctor right away. Mommy is amazing. You can let her check on you.”
Yana could clearly see that Freya had indeed glared at Adam several times just now.
She thought, ‘Freya actually held a grudge against a child. How utterly petty!
Yana prided herself on how well she and Carlos had raised Freya, grooming her in every way to be a proper young lady from an aristocratic family.
Lost in thought for a while, Yana felt she should find some time to have a serious talk with Freya.
But for now, she needed to have a serious talk with Skylar first.
After dinner, Yana asked Carlos to look after Adam for a while. Then she took Skylar into the study.
Yana looked Skylar in the eye. “Skylar, be honest. Is Adam Yosef’s child?”
Only the Lamberts and Yosef possessed that black card.
Adam having that card spoke volumes.
“Yes, he is indeed Yosef’s child,” Skylar replied.
Yana sighed, “Yosef isn’t exactly easy to deal with. You…”
The Lambert Group and the Campbell Group had always been rivals. Yet here was Yosef, not only leaving his child with the Lambert family, but even discussing cooperation with Skylar.
Yosef was always scheming. What if he had some hidden agenda? She was just so afraid Skylar would get hurt because of this.
The Lambert family could protect Skylar, but what they feared most was that, despite all precautions, something might still slip through.
“Mom, don’t worry,” Skylar said, her heart warmed by Yana’s concern.
“How could I not worry? After everything I went through to finally find you, if anything happened to you, how would I even go on?” Yana’s eyes welled up with tears as she spoke.
Yana gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Skylar’s temple and said softly, “I don’t ever want you to be hurt again, not even a little bit.”
Skylar took Yana’s hand and gave it a gentle pat. “Don’t you trust me,
Mom?”
Yana shook her head.
“It’s fine if you trust me.” Skylar gently wiped the tears from Yana’s eyes. “Don’t worry, Mom. I can handle myself. If he dares to cross me, I’ll make sure he
regrets it.”
Yana nodded.
After sharing a heart–to–heart with Skylar, Yana checked on little Adam before bed. Finding him sound asleep, she quietly closed the door and returned to
her room.
