But for some reason, he treated her terribly. When she mentioned the past, he scolded her instead.
Despite his coldness, she still liked him deeply.

Unfortunately, she had gambled and lost.
Skylar pulled herself out of the memory. Her gaze dropped slightly, hiding the dim light in her eyes. “So what if it was me?”
Her words were an indirect admission.
Yosef’s face turned even paler. “It was you, wasn’t it?”
Skylar gave a mocking smile. Seeing him suffer somehow eased some of the resentment she’d held for years. She even felt a little better. “It was me.”
She continued, “I remember I told you before that I saved you, but you had already assumed Elianna was the one who saved you. No matter what I said, you wouldn’t believe me.”
The color drained completely from Yosef’s face. He knew he was terribly wrong.
He had mistaken someone else for his savior, repaid the wrong person, and hurt the one who actually saved him.
He bit his lip and couldn’t bear to stay in the room any longer. He turned and walked out quickly.
Skylar watched his back, lost in thought.
There had been too many misunderstandings between them, but a mistake was a mistake, and the hurt was real.
She couldn’t forgive him, nor could she let go of the lingering shadow in her heart and continue with him.
She wanted to divorce Yosef as soon as possible. After finishing one last task, she would take Adam abroad, far away from Yosef, far enough to avoid any
further entanglements.
After a long while, her gaze shifted back from the doorway to her little son lying in the hospital bed.
Yosef sat on a bench in the hospital for a long time, a heavy sadness shrouding him.
He thought for a long while. Even though he knew Skylar hated him and would never be with him again, he still wasn’t willing to give up.
Even if the road ahead was rough, he wanted to give it a try.
Once he had made up his mind, Yosef returned to the ward.
Yosef called out, “Skylar.”
He had just opened his mouth to speak when the boy on the bed, Adam, woke up and cried out, “Mommy! I want Mommy!”
$kylar had no time for Yosef. She immediately scooped the child into her arms, gently patting and soothing him. “Mommy’s here. Adam, don’t be
scared.”
“Mommy, I was so scared I’d never see you again.” Adam curled up in her soft arms, crying his fears out.
He cried so hard that his whole face turned red, his small body trembling with sobs.
Chapter 161
