Last time, when Yosef sent someone to investigate Elianna, they uncovered a lot.
For example, the scheming against him was orchestrated by the Stone family and Elianna, and Skylar was merely a poor soul forced into the center of the
storm.
The poisoning had been entirely planned by Elianna.
But it was too late. What was done was done, and the harm was irreversible.
His lips turned pale as he could only utter powerlessly, “I’m sorry.”
Skylar turned her face away. “I don’t need an apology. I just want to stay away from you.”
She spoke softly. “From now on, let’s not be involved with each other in any way aside from matters concerning Adam or absolute necessity.”
Yosef opened his mouth several times, and finally let out a barely audible “Okay.”
His heart felt as if it had been torn in two, raw and painfully bleeding.
But he had no standing to ask her to stay. He was the one who owed her, the one who had hurt her to the core.
Now, she had found someone better. That person’s whole family treated her well, cherished her.
He had no right to disturb her again.
Yosef closed his eyes, then opened them. His eyes looked at her gently. “I have one more question.”
It was a doubt that had been haunting him for a long time.
He asked, “Back then, when I was framed by the main family and nearly died, was it you who saved me and brought me back to be treated?”
At that time, he had been injured and had suffered a head injury, resulting in temporary blindness.
Later, he managed to contact his people and returned to get treated. He also tried to find his savior.
He didn’t know Skylar was from the Stone family back then. It took him years of hard searching before he finally found someone.
The Stone family all said Elianna had saved him. He had his doubts at first.
But Elianna could describe the rescue in detail, and that convinced him.
Hearing him bring it up suddenly, Skylar’s thoughts were dragged back to the moment she had rescued him years ago.
She had been young, out playing, and passed a dark alley where she heard sounds of fighting.
When she went to check, she found a teenage Yosef lying on the ground, half–dead, surrounded by fierce–looking men. The leader held a knife, seemingly ready to finish him off.
She had been scared.
But she also feared that Yosef would be killed, so she gathered her courage and shouted at the top of her lungs, “The police are coming!”
Skylar even played the sound of a police siren on her phone.
The men didn’t even bother to check, grabbed their things, and ran.

She then ran to Yosef, checked that he was still breathing, and with all her strength, carried him out of the alley.
