Chapter 387
Emily’s rapid-fire questions left Andrew momentarily stunned. He wasn’t stupid; he wouldn’t have maintained his respected position as CEO for so long if he were. But somehow, these questions had never crossed his mind before.
Now, with Emily’s words, it was as if a light had been turned on in his mind, and everything suddenly became clear.
But before he could process these thoughts, a voice in his subconscious suddenly spoke up. “Lydia is the purest and kindest person in the world. Her words are always true.”
In an instant, the clarity he’d just felt vanished, and he glared at Emily with fresh anger. He snapped, “Lydia has always been the most sensible one. She only went to the hospital to see Sean so I wouldn’t have to worry.
“She didn’t call the police-she came back and told me everything, and she did it to protect you. Otherwise, you’d be in jail and making headlines by now.
“The facts are right in front of you, and you’re still making excuses, even trying to throw dirt on Lydia. You’ve let me down.”
In his fury, Andrew slammed his hand down on the desk, like he was trying to scare Emily into silence.
If Emily were still the old Emily, the first time Andrew slammed the desk would have been enough to send her into an immediate apology-no questions, no evidence.
But now, Emily just watched as Andrew slammed the desk again and again, not feeling a thing—if anything, she almost wanted to laugh.
She thought, ‘Austin is right. Watching Andrew lose his temper at me is just like seeing a brainless mad dog barking for no reason. Honestly, who in their right mind would bother arguing with a mad dog?’
So Emily waited until Andrew finished his outburst, then spoke slowly, “Mr. Bennett, you’re right. Ms. Bennett is the most sensible and obedient. Is there anything else? I’ve been busy lately, so please don’t contact me unless it’s work-related.”
Seeing that after everything he said, Emily still looked as stubborn and unrepentant as ever, Andrew was completely disappointed.
