Chapter 433
‘She’ll forgive me, won’t she? Maybe she’ll come down the cliff to find me, just like she did back then. Maybe, just maybe, we could finally go back to the way things were-no more walls between us, just like the old days, he thought.
Clinging to that hope, Lucas blacked out as the world spun and pain tore through his body. When Lucas woke up, he was lying in a hospital bed.
The blinding white ceiling and the harsh stench of disinfectant made him uneasy. It took him a while to figure out where he
was.
His gaze fell on the attendant nearby. He asked, “Who saved me?” He didn’t even have time to worry about his injuries. Speaking carefully, almost as if afraid of the answer, he continued, “Was it a girl?”
The attendant, who hadn’t even noticed he was awake, looked a little stunned by his questions and took a moment to think before answering, “Yes, a girl brought you here.”
All the tension in Lucas’s body melted away in an instant. He felt he was struck by an overwhelming wave of joy. I knew it. Once Emily saw how sincere I was, she’d forgive me,’ Lucas thought.
Lucas didn’t care about the pain wracking his body or the weird feeling that something was off.
He shifted, propping himself up on his elbow, half sitting up, his eyes full of anticipation as he looked at the attendant. When she brought me here, was she nervous? Did she say anything?”
The attendant looked a bit lost. “Huh? Say what?”
Lucas grew eager. “Like, was she so worried about me that she grabbed my hand and told me to hang in? Did she say she hoped I’d be okay, or maybe that she forgave me or something like that?”
The attendant looked even more confused. “Well.”
