Laura continued casually, “I left something in the dorm that day, so I came back to grab it. That’s when I saw you passed out on the floor. I rushed you to the hospital immediately. I don’t even want to think about what might’ve happened if hadn’t come back.”

Georgia frowned. Was Laura actually talking to her? It didn’t sound like it. Her words seemed directed at someone else entirely.

Who is she performing for?

The answer came before she could finish the thought. Instinctively, Georgia tumned to glance over her shoulder.

Before she could react, firm hands wrapped around her waist and lifted her effortlessly off the ground. In an instant, she was freed from Laura’s grip and pressed against a solid, warm chest.

A rich, melodious male voice spoke behind her. “Georgia, I think you owe Miss Savio your gratitude.”

Jshe recognized that voice immediately–deep, smooth, threaded with magnetic resonance. It belonged to Dominic Foster,

the man she’d encountered twice before in the corridor

She turned to him, her expression polite and composed. “Hello, Mr. Foster.”

She greeted him formally and wriggled, attempting to escape his hold, but his grip tightened, refusing her freedom.

A flicker of irritation passed through her. Dominic’s interference would only worsen things between her and Laura.

“Hello, Mr. Foster, Laura piped up quickly, her voice syrupy with forced sweetness. Her eyes darted to Dominic’s hands resting on Georgia’s waist, jealousy burning hot behind her lashes.

Dominic gave Laura a courteous nod. “Miss Savio.

Her heart flipped at the simple acknowledgement. His smile was lethal–an easy curve of allure.

lips that carried an intoxicating

Standing behind Georgia, Dominic noticed the tousled strands of hair falling over her forehead. His gaze darkened for a fraction of a second before he shifted it back to Laura, his smile unfaltering. “Miss Savio, you mentioned that Georgia was recently hospitalized??

His presence radiated raw masculine power, and Laura felt her heart hammering violently against her ribs. Heat flooded her cheeks, her body reacting helplessly to his voice, his scent, the mere proximity of him. But a sour pang twisted in her gut at his continued focus on Georgia.

She forced a light laugh. “Yes. It was raining that night, and Georgia got drenched. She must’ve had a fever. When she tried to stand up, she lost her balance and fell against the door handle. I was so worried when I took her to the hospital.”

Georgia bit down hard on the inside of her cheek. Liar. You twist everything so easily. Don’t you fear I’ll expose your lies? Or do you think I’m too weak to fight back?

Before she could gather herself to respond, Dominic turned to her, his eyes sharp and probing. “Is that true, Georgia?” Both women stiffened, blindsided by the sudden question.

Laura felt a jolt of terror race through her veins, raising goosebumps across her skin. “Georgia,” Dominic repeated softly, his tone deceptively gentle. “Is she telling the truth?” Yes or no, Georgia thought. All it takes is one word.

She saw the flicker of panic dancing in Laura’s eyes, the unravelling of her composure.

Slowly, Georgia raised her head and met Dominic’s gaze. She offered him a small, unbothered smile. “Of course.”

Relief crashed through Laura’s body so suddenly that her knees nearly buckled. Sweat soaked the back of her shirt, cold against her flushed skin. The rollercoaster of dread left her dizzy and trembling with rage.

She glanced at Georgia with a mix of confusion, humiliation, and seething hate. How dare you put me through that? Her chest burned with fury. You… you’re nothing. And yet you just humiliated me.
