Chapter 46
Charlotte didn’t understand why Preston seemed so fixated on Georgia.
What she did know was that his hatred ran deep–deep enough to make him torment her without mercy. thought, she chose her words carefully.
“Nothing out of line,” she said in a measured tone. “The guest just asked Georgia for a kiss.”
After a moment’s
Charlotte doubted Preston would care about something so trivial. Clients at Vetro Club asked for kisses all the time, often tipping generously for it. The girls welcomed these harmless requests to earn a little extra.
But what happened next stunned her.
The moment she finished speaking, Preston, hundreds of miles away in Los Angeles, hung up without a word.
He sat frozen, staring out at the city beyond his office window, his jaw clenched so tightly that his teeth ached. Fury simmered beneath his cool exterior, barely contained.
Around him, the conference room fell into absolute silence No one dared breathe too loudly. Preston, the Alpha, radiated a cold dominance so intense that the other werewolves felt their lungs tighten. Each one shrank back into their chairs, terrified of drawing his attention.
Preston’s gaze remained locked on the night skyline. Slowly, a bitter smile curled his lips. Charlotte’s calm voice echoed in his mind. Nothing out of line?
A flicker of mockery crossed his eyes, chased by a surge of rage that pulsed hot through his veins.
He thought back to the night before he left for Los Angeles. He had stood at his apartment window atop Vetro Club, looking down into the shadows of the city. Something about seeing Georgia demean herself had twisted him up inside. Her shameless humility sickened him. It was as though she no longer possessed even the faintest shred of dignity.
He had hated that feeling.

He didn’t understand it. Three years ago, Georgia had been nothing to him–a meaningless existence in the periphery of his world. But now, all it took was a whisper of her name to light his fury like gasoline meeting fire.
When anger took hold of him, his wolf always prowled just beneath his skin, sneering at his weakness.
He couldn’t bear seeing her reduced to this. Nor could he bear losing control of himself because of her. So he had fled to Los Angeles, thinking distance would smother the chaos she sparked in him.
Out of sight, out of mind.
That was his plan. Away from her, perhaps his inexplicable mood swings would settle.
But now, she had kissed another man.
Does nothing matter to her? Is she so numb she doesn’t even have boundaries anymore?
His knuckles whitened as he clenched his fist. “Lorenzo,” he said quietly, his voice edged with venom, “get ready to go
back.”
After work, Georgia made her way alone through the empty streets to the staff dormitory. As always, Laura didn’t bother walking with her.
When Georgia stepped inside, she was startled to see the living room lights still on. Laura sat on the couch, scrolling on her phone, eyes flickering with something unreadable when she looked up.
“You’re back.”
Georgia blinked, surprised. Laura never waits up. She’s usually asleep by now. Is she… waiting for me?
