Hiding His Alpha Twins novel Chapter 37

Catarina’s POV

I can't believe he is here, in the castle. He made a great effort to get in here, dressed as if he were one of the workers.

My heart pounds as I confront David, my ex-beta, who stands before me with chilling confidence. His words hang heavy in the air, suffocating me with their implications. I clutch my twins tighter to my side as if they could shield me from the danger that looms ominously in front of us.

"Madam, I am so sorry. I had no idea who he was. He said he was here to deliver something." Mindy tried to explain, but David told her to be quiet, or he would end her life.

The dim light casts shadows across David's face, accentuating his sinister smirk. His eyes gleam with a mixture of malice and triumph, reflected in the polished surface of the gun he shamelessly displays. Its metallic sheen sends a shiver down my spine, the sight a stark reminder of the threat that hangs over us like a dark cloud.

"How did you find me?" I growl through gritted teeth; my voice laced with defiance and fear. I have tried so hard to hide, to protect my twins, and yet here he stands, tracking me down with a determination that chills me to the core.

"It's funny what a pathetic weasel Carla always was!" he chuckled.

"What did you do to her?" I growled. Matilda wants to rip him apart limb by limb, but I cannot frighten my children further, so I have no choice but to block Matilda.

David's fingers tenderly caress the weapon as if it is a prized possession, a symbol of his authority. His eyes bore into mine, a smugness dancing in their depths. "Oh dear, Catarina," he taunts, his voice dripping with condescension. "Have you not learned a thing? We searched tirelessly for you. Lochlan, our Alpha, never gave up hope that you would return to us. He remained loyal to you, even after..."

A surge of fury rises within me, threatening to consume all rationale.

The mention of Lochlan's infidelity, and his betrayal, ignite a wildfire of anger and hurt. I squeeze my eyes shut, fighting back tears and a scream of anguish threatening to escape my lips. I refuse to let David see me crumble under the weight of this revelation.

"He was sleeping with my best friend, David," I spit out, my voice laced with venom. "And you dare to call that loyalty?"

I shake my head, my heart heavy with conflicting emotions. "David, I understand your anger and frustration, but taking innocent lives won't solve anything," I plead with him. "There must be another way to handle this. Let's find a peaceful resolution together. My twins are nothing to do with your Alpha, and as for Tara, she is not locked away anywhere. Although she really should be, given that she caused all this in the first place. Her and your precious Alpha."

His eyes flicker with anger and uncertainty, but he remains stubborn. "There is no peaceful resolution, Catarina. Our Alpha needs me, and it's time I take matters into my own hands."

Mindy, trembling in his grasp, manages to speak up. "David, please... This isn't the way. We can find another solution, a better way."

David hesitates, his grip on the gun loosening slightly. I seize the opportunity, stepping closer and reaching out my hand. "David, let Mindy go. We can talk and find a way to reconcile. We don't have to resort to this. Please think about the children. Think about the closeness I and you once had. We were friends, David." I shook my head, trying to reason with him.

David looks at me, pain and conflict evident in his eyes. Slowly, his grip on Mindy softens, allowing her to slip out of his hold. She joins me and the twins, hugging them tightly as we stand together, a small, united front.

He steps back, and the gun is now pointed towards the ground. "I won't repeat it. Bring me Tara and Lochlan unharmed, or you two and your precious little brats will get it."
