Hiding His Alpha Twins novel Chapter 12

Catarina’s POV

"Matilda?" I whispered, my voice shaking with disbelief. I gripped onto the banister to ensure that I did not fall. My mouth felt dry, and my heart was pounding in my chest. "Matilda?" I repeated, tears welled up in my eyes. My wolf. She was back!

"Yes, Catarina it is me," she said, her voice soothing and gentle. I had to sit down. This was so unexpected. I had always wondered why she never came back to me. I had missed her so much and hated Lochlan for making me lose her. How dare he.

I clenched my fists into balls of fury at the thought of that sorry excuse of an alpha. I hoped that I would never cross paths with that horrible imbecile again. The hurt and pain that he had caused me was unforgivable. My twins would never know him, and he would never know of their existence. I would make sure of that.

Alex had promised to protect me, and I knew that he would. But Matilda coming back and confirming that he was our mate made me happy. So happy.

"Matilda I’m so sorry for what our ex-mate did, I thought I had lost you forever." I cried hugging my knees together and burying my face. I couldn’t believe she was back. I had missed her so much. The relief I felt having her back was like a breath of fresh air.

"Catarina, you have nothing to be sorry for. Lochlan did wrong to us, and the moon goddess has blessed us with a new mate, he is perfect for us and so caring. I can sense his wolf but it’s very faint." Matilda told me and I nodded.

"Alex has been keeping his wolf at bay while he was in the human town. Matilda, we need to keep our pups safe from Lochlans clutches." I suddenly said and she assured me that we would do whatever it took to keep them pups safe.

"Matilda it’s been so long since we ran together." I said and that was it. I knew I needed to let her out, even if it were only for a little while. I had missed her so much. It was well overdue.

I knew the twins would be safe with Alex, so I didn’t think twice when I found myself running out of our beautiful new home.

The rain was coming down in sheets, drenching me to the bone as I ran out of the doors. I could hear the patter of the raindrops hitting the ground around me, the sound echoing in my ears. I didn't look back, didn't dare to. I knew if I saw Alex or the twins, I wouldn't be able to shift into my wolf, not when I was feeling so vulnerable.

As we ran, I could hear Matilda's thoughts in my head. She was grateful for the chance to shift, to run wild and free. And I was grateful for the chance to help her.

I skidded to a stop, my heart racing.

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. "We need to be careful," I said. "There are rogues in the forest. We need to be careful."

Matilda nodded, and we started running again, but this time, we were more cautious, staying close to the trees, trying to stay hidden.

As we ran, I could hear them getting closer, their footsteps pounding on the ground. And then, just as we were about to be caught,

"Rogues" Matilda howled in my head, and she ran. She ran as fast as she could, and I was so proud of her but then something caused her to trip and topple over. In an instant there was a huge black wolf inches away. We were surrounded with nowhere to go.

Howling, the wolf leapt onto us and pinned us down. Matilda tried to fight her way off, but he was just too powerful.
