The ride home is spent with the kids telling us that they helped some of the other kids with their writing. Their teacher rewarded them with stickers and they can’t wait to show us. My body breaks out in goosebumps as I get to the light to turn into the cove. I slow at the intersection and put the car into park as a loud ringing floods my ears.

A woman dressed in black walks out into the middle of the street in a trench coat and opens it up to reveal what looks like two submachine guns.

“Fuck” I shout and hit the gas out of pure instinct. The car shoots forward, slamming right into her

“Don’t stop, Angel Knight says as he reaches under the passenger seat. He pulls out a black box with a lock on it. He breaks the top clean off and as soon as I’m inside the gate he’s out of the car “Get inside. Baby”

I drive up to the house’s stairs and tum the car so I can get the kids out without exposing us. I cut the engine and pause for

a split second when I hear gunshots I climb through the center console to unbuckle the twins: I get over Ayre, who is giggling, probably thinking this is a game.

Aizen, on the other hand, is on it. He crawls under me as I get Ayrie out of the car seat. He stays low and between my legs as we get out of the car

“Straight to my room. I want you two to hide in the closet until Mommy or Daddy come get you, okay?” I rush out and slam the door shut behind me.

Aizen takes Ayrie’s hand and pulls her up the stairs before she can start asking questions. I follow them, shut them in my closet, and dive under the bed for my handgun. I clear the rooms and head down to ensure no one is downstairs. I make it through the dinning room when my phone ringing scares the fuck out of me. I struggle to get it out of my pocket.

When I finally take it out of my pocket, an unknown number pops up. I’m guessing I took too long to answer because I get a message that reads: It’s me, Perry. The phone starts to ring again, and I answer

“Hey,” she says before I can say a word. “I need you to listen to me carefully. Don’t go into the living room just yet”

“Huh?”

Tm watching you through the cameras. Sync your earbuds. They’re on the kitchen counter” I rush over to the kitchen as quietly as I can. I do as she asks. “Perfect, now through your study go into the living room, stay low. Gun aimed straight”

“Is there someone in there?” | whisper.

“Mhm,” she confirms

“Perry”

“You’re fine,” she cuts me off. “You’re going to be the Rogue Queen, Phoebe. This is where you belong. I know you your jellies,”

“In my jellies?” I almost laugh..

“Your femme nutsack whatever you call your big girl balls,” that makes me grin as I make my way into the study. “Okay, this is all about timing. Don’t think, just let your instincts guide you,”

I hear someone moving around on the other side of the door, trashing my living room, I just finished putting together with Knight and the twins. I quietly turn the knob and push the door open a little. There’s a woman moving, throwing things around like she’s looking for something with her back to me.

She stops, probably sensing me. As she spins around, I fire, hitting her thigh. She screams, raising her gun, and I fire again. The bullet goes through her hand and she drops the gun, falling on the floor.

“Holy shit! Let’s go, Phoebel Search her. Make sure she doesn’t die. We’re not far from you,”

I rush over to her, kicking the gun away from us. The woman watches me angrily as I remove more weapons from her. I look around for something to help with the bleeding. I find Ayrie’s sweater and grab it along with one of her towels. I tie the sweater around her thigh and give her the towel for her hand.

“What are you doing?” she groans. “I just tried to kill you,”

“Maybe get a different job. I’m literally a just a mom,” I roll my eyes. “Who are you? What are you doing in my house?”

She laughs groaning

“Phoebe?” Knight rushes into the house.

“Over here,” I call out to him when he breaks for the stairs.

He runs in only wearing shorts. The woman and I exchange looks. The thing inside of me growls at her, and she quickly

averts her gaze. He comes over to me and picks me up as if I weigh nothing Before I can get a word out, his

“Are you okay? Are you hurt? Where are the twins?” he rushes out in a single breath
