Chapter 206
“That is mad disrespectful,” Violetta says over the line. “I would fire her completely.”
“Same,” Perry says. “Jonas would hang her by her big toes, I can work on a privacy agreement so you can put everyone at ease once we launch, this system is designed to help the entire pack. Traffic cams, twenty–four–hour surveillance on the beaches, and we guarantee a crime drop. It also opens up hella jobs. I mean, yeah, I can have access to it, but they’re going to be running it themselves.”
“Isn’t that something I should have known sooner, so that we can start training people?”
“Justin’s on it. This is definitely something your Beta needs to put together. Did you guys talk about that?”
“She wanted the woman who started the petition to have me kicked out. Alpha Rizen almost killed the last guy she suggested. I have four reports of them trying to kill one another.”
“Fire her,” Violetta says more sternly. “She’s going to make you look bad at court. She might change the bills. I wouldn’t trust her for shit.”
“Me neither,” Perry agrees. “Why don’t you let me see what’s going on?”
“You mean like spy on her?”
“Yes,” the two of them say with no humor in their tone at all.
“It’ll just be a couple of hours. Jordan is here. We’re good at snooping.”
“I mean, if you think it’s necessary.”
“It is. Go, Perry,” Violetta laughs.
“I’ll see you later,” Perry waves me off.
“She’s not going to do something insane, is she?” I ask.
“Not unless she finds it necessary. So, what you need to do is review the elder portfolios and conduct interviews with them. I am sending you a questionnaire that my brother has put together, along with a description of what you might need regarding each position. It’s traditional and it works for
him.”
“Thank you. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“You’d figure it out,” she grins.
“How are things with Alpha Barnes going?” I ask. She takes a profound breath and that’s all I really need to know.
“I don’t know. Sometimes I think we’re great, and then he does a one–eighty. He says I baby Vince too much. Vince says I favor him regarding the rest of the alliance. I’m just trying to keep things neutral.”
“Have you tried cornering them both?”
“Are you out of your mind?” she laughs. “They’ll kill each other.”
“Or the other thing and finally fuck one out.”
“I wish. I also think that’s what they need, but they’re both assholes. How is everything at RT2”
“The new CEOs are killing it. I just finished the reports last night. The first City of Phoebs building is a success. The warehouse remodel is progressing. There was a lot of water damage.”
“Thanks to you, that side of the city is opening up again. We’ve been restoring the houses, and they’re selling pretty fast. Vince and Aresen are excited.

It’s bringing in a lot of business.”
“Sweet,”
“I know Knight can be a little cold when big things come up. So can Perry. We’re trying to shut down these breeding programs. It can be very dangerous to unleash things like this even in our world. Some creatures have gone extinct for a reason. We have inter–racial laws for this reason. A werewolf mare hybrid can single–handedly decimate a city as big as Magique overnight.
“When I started with the syndicate, this is what we were promised. To stop mass murder. To prevent genocide. We have done a lot of bad shit, but we’ve prevented a whole lot worse. Without us, there would be no more humans. That’s the reason why I worked for the Thornes for so long. We become the bad thing so that innocent people don’t suffer.”
I wipe my tears and try to understand what she’s s second I survived against my odds.

“Thanks, Vy.”
“You should come over. Bring crazy with you. I know she’s dying to get you in the fucking jet. We can have a girls‘ night. Perry and I can get drunk on your behalf, and we can go craving hunting. Yeah?”
“I’ll talk to her about it as soon as she comes back,” I a
agree.
“All right. I have to go. Duty calls. Email the questionnaires. If they can’t work out an email, you don’t need them anywhere near you.”
“Thanks,” I agree.
I turn off my tablet and sit back, looking at the portfolios Allison left for me. Making up my mind, and start a termination sheet to inform her that I no longer want her to represent me at court. Once I fill everything out, I begin to go through the resumes.
I look through the questionnaires and the requirements Violetta sent over. I match the resumes as best as I can and begin to send out the emails. It’s a little past four when I get all the emails sent. I’m getting ready to pick up the twins from training when my phone starts ringing. My heart starts racing when Knight’s picture comes up on the screen.
“Hey,” I answer.
“Hey, we’re on our way back. Do you want anything?” he asks casually.
“Pizza?”
“You got it, Angel. I’ll see you soon,” he says and hangs up.
I set the phone down and stare at it for a moment. Does that mean they finished what they set out to do? Did they change their minds? Did they find what they were looking for? Instinctively, I reach for the remote and then decide against it. I breathe out and stick my phone in my pocket to head down.
I can’t even bring myself to play the radio when as I drive down to the school. Het Violetta’s words play in my head as I look around and watch all the happy kids run to their parents with art projects and backpacks in their hands. I stop in front of the gate where Aizen’s class always comes out of.
Ayrie and Melody are playing with a couple of other girls just a few feet away. Her eyes light up when she sees Aizen’s class walking towards her. I get out of the car and fix the three car seats to help them get settled.
Aizen laughs when the girls greet him. He introduces them to some of his friends, and the three of them wait for eve direction.

“Mommy!” Ayrie screams.
“Phoebe!” Melody adds, and the two of them run towards me. I laugh and crouch down to hug them. Aizen doesn’t run, but he’s just as excited.
“Let’s get you settled in,” I say, and help them into the back seat. Ayrie goes in first and is followed by Aizen. I buckle him in, and then Mel. I shut the door, and go around to buckle Ayrie in.
