Chapter 191
Chapter 191
The girls deny it, but as I finish brushing their hair, they’re barely keeping their eyes open. As I’m tucking them in, I notice that Ayrio’s tablet is in a video call. On the other end are Aizen and Knight. Melody places her teddy in the toy bed beside Chocolate sprinkles and climbs onto the bed with Ayria. When I asked why she doesn’t sleep with him anymore, she said it was because he sleeps with Sakura. Melody’s favorite bear.
“Is the danger over, Dad?” Aizen asks catching my attention.
Knight takes Aizen’s brush and picks him up. He steps onto his bed and sits him on his lap. He dries his hair a little with the towel. He brushes it and then puts some product in it.
“The thing about being an alpha is that you’re always going to have to protect everyone–the whole pack. This is the number one rule of being an alpha. There are a lot of alphas out there, and what you have here is special.
“These people are brilliant, and they come from very powerful families, like yours: Mom and Dad’s. So, there are always going to be other alphas who are jealous and will come and try to take what you have.
“It won’t always be clear who is on your side, but your main goal will always be to make sure you keep your people safe and you follow the pack laws to prevent wars. The danger is low for now, but it will never be zero.”
“I understand,” he says quietly. “I didn’t like that Mommy was outside when they were attacking us.”
“You and me both, buddy. But Mom is a strong wolf. Stronger than any wolf you’ll ever come across. As the alpha of this pack, she has to be cut there with the others no matter what. That’s her job now.”
“But she’s a girl,” he laughs.
“Yeah, a cute one. The cute ones are always the scariest.”
“Like Ayrie?”
“Oh, yeah. Ayrie is a lot like Mommy. She’s very powerful, but she doesn’t like sharing that power with others.”
“Why not? They need it.”
“Right. Ayrie helps in a different way. She will help people by giving them what they need to survive. As a rogue, it is expected that we be able to survive on our own. No pack. There aren’t as many rogues, but they all belong to the King.”
“You?”
“Yes, and when she’s ready. Ayrie. Just like when you’re ready, you will be the alpha of this pack.
“Why can’t we both be the alpha?”
“Do you really want to share all of this with her?” Knight tickles him. “You know, because you and Ayrie are twins, you have to share everything. The pack is yours, all of it, and she doesn’t get any of it because it only belongs to you.”
“Yeah, but I like sharing my stuff with her. I like it when she’s happy. It makes my tummy warm.”
“Good. Then you can share it and she can share her rogues with you, but it’s not going to change that the pack is yours and the rogues are hers.”
“Okay,” he nods and crawls off his lap to get under the blanket. “What if people are mean to her? Am I allowed to help her?”
“Always. She is your sister. Just like how the pack is never at zero danger, neither is Ayrie. We’re a family, and we have to protect one another. Forever.”
“Forever,” he repeats.
A tap at the door catches my attention, and I shut the tablet off and plug it into the charger. Allison is waiting for me outside. I glance back at the girls to

see them sound asleep. I turn on the humidifier and the night light before stepping out. I put my finger to my lips to keep her quiet until I get the door is completely shut.
“Alpha Tec is here,” she informs me.
“Thank you,” I say, “Let me freshen up a bit. I’ll be right down.”
“I don’t think keeping him waiting is going to help the situation,” she tried to stop me.
“You mean the situation where his daughter came in and attacked us in broad daylight, killing a bunch of out wolves?” I ask her. She looks away. “He can wait. I need to freshen up.”
“You’re still upset with me.”
“I’m not upset with you, Allison. There’s no need for me to be upset over your opinions. I value all of them regarding the pack, even when they don’t align with mine. We’re not supposed to agree on everything. That would be crazy.”
She searches my face and for a moment I think that Ren told her, but she nods and excuses herself. Knight comes out of Aizen’s room just as she’s walking away. For the first time since we came here, she gives him a nasty look before disappearing down the stairs. That act alone tells me that what Derek suggested is best.
