Chapter 172
Chapter 172
Ayrie is up by the time Allison comes in. We’re having breakfast. She liked that when she came downstairs, Aizen was wearing the same color. The two of them laughed about how cool it was that they were matching.
Allison already knows we had an intruder and that the morning patrol is on the move on the behest of the Rogue King. She looks nervous, and I think that makes two of us because I want to know what the hell is going on. We’re going to have to adjust the schedule and possibly keep changing it so they can’t track it. At least, until we know what to do about the situation,
“Hey,” Ayrie and I both greet her when she stops at the dining room archway. I think that spooked her a little more,
“Alpha Rizen, I’m-”
“Have you had breakfast?” I ask, cutting her short, so she knows now isn’t the time. She shakes her head. “Come eat with us. We just sat down. Knight is cleaning up. He’ll be right down.”
“They left one behind,” Knight and one of the guards come in. “This is Jonathan.”
“Jason,” the guard corrects.
“Bro, I’ve been calling you Jonathan this whole time,” Knight laughs and looks over at him.
“I was a little embarrassed to correct you, sir,” he clears his throat. We all laugh. Ayrie even smacks her forehead.
“This is Jason,” Knight introduces him properly. “He’s the Beta I’ve been working with to get better training and he caught the kid.”
Wait, he’s been working with him since we arrived. I give the guy a look. He instantly turns bright red.
“The one that was with Teller?” I ask. Allison’s eyes snap to me.
“Teller? As in Sloane Teller or Austin Teller?” she asks.
“Join us for breakfast, Jason.” I motion him over. “Sloane.”
“Thank you, Alpha Rizen,” he says, bowing and taking a seat beside her. I notice the way the two of them exchange worried glances.
-Don’t.- I warn Knight when he goes to comment. He turns to look at me and smiles.
-Wow, so this thing does work?– he teases. I glare at him. Ayrie giggles, looking between us.
-Me too. We both double–take at her when her cute little voice echoes in my head. -This is fun.-
-Oh, my god.- Knight stares at her and then laughs. He gets up and takes her out of her chair to spin her around.
“Daddy,” she cries out laughing.
“When did you learn that?” he rubs his face on her belly.
“Now,” she pats his face playfully. “It tickles my brain.”
“Okay, let’s finish eating. Pop–pop wants to take you guys to the beach.” he sets her down. She lets out a delighted squeal and continues to eat without hesitation.
“Is that okay with what happened earlier?” I ask him.
“My dad brought back up and I want them to spend some time together before school starts,” he nods. “That and my mom doesn’t want him back at the ranch. Elliot punched him in the face, and I don’t want him sticking his nose in anything that isn’t rogue business.”

Chapter 172
We stare at one another for a moment. The certainty he said that with kind of falls apart in his expression, because let’s be honest. Mr. Knightly is an actual former alpha, and he’s been killing and intercepting Traditionalists in his pack since he started, because they hate how he runs things, He’s literally the most feared alpha asshole for that one reason. I have a problem that he’s a pro at taking care of. It would be dumb of me if I didn’t listen to him now. He hasn’t disappointed in teaching me everything I know up until this point.
“Umm-”
“I will take the kids to the beach,” he groans.
“I’m not trying to be an asshole, Hon, but this is your dad’s shit.” I glance over at Allison and Jason. They both seem to agree.
“No, yeah. You’re right,” he says, finishing his coffee. I can feel it in my chest that I hurt his feelings, but this is hella important.
Not that I don’t trust him being able to help, but this is very important. I don’t want him to give me the answer. I need to understand how it works so that Aizen can also learn from it. He’s going to try to fix this for me, and I know Arnold is going to make me do it.
“I need to do this. If you’re here, you’re going to want to fix it for me, and that’s not how this should work.”
“We’re partners. That’s how it works.”
“We are, but this isn’t like trying to help rogues find their footing again. The pack isn’t on its own. They function as a unit, and currently, they have no one to guide them. You asked me to do this because you believe I can. It’s not that I don’t want your help, I simply need you to watch my six while I’m testing the floorboards.”
“That’s not a saying,” he smiles and stands to kiss me on the head.
“It should be. It makes sense to me.”
