Chapter 169
Sleep came easily last night, and I actually feel rested. I got downstairs to find that the kitchen is already up and running, I am greeted by everyone. politely. I’m not used to waking up to this many people, but I don’t feel threatened or overwhelmed in the slightest,
“Good morning, Alpha Rizen. I took the liberty of setting your preferred fruits out for your morning smoothie, if there is anything else you require, let me know. Consuelo is here!
“Thank you. I’m sorry you had to leave so abruptly.” I apologize. “The food was phenomenal.”
“It’s okay. I get it. It’s something we can’t control. Do you know if we need to adjust the supplements to accommodate you better?” She glances down at my belly.
“Yes, I was actually going to ask Allison if there’s a private physician or something. The last time I did this, I was mortal,”
I take some of the strawberries in a bowl and dump them into the blender. Everyone in the kitchen stops and looks over to us. Consuelo lights up livel just told her the best news ever. Hook around the room to see that the others share the same excitement. I remember the first time I told someone I was pregnant with the twins. The pity in their eyes and then the man I thought was my father called me a whore.
“That is excellent news.” Consuelo laughs. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you.” I laugh, and suddenly I am being bombarded by all the other women here.
They start talking about what’s best for me to eat and how they’re going to help carry some of the weight of the household as I make my smoothie. One of the older ladies comes over to me and begins to add things to my smoothie before blending it for me. As he pours it for me, Knight comes in dressed in a suit with his earpiece in place.
“Good morning,” he greets everyone as he comes over to me. They all bow politely and stare for a moment when his hand reaches for my flat abdomen. “Arnold is here with some of the best pack doctors in his pack. They would like access to the infirmary and for you to be there before you go on your run.”
“I was thinking of using the resources we have here,” I tell him when the women all shrink away. “He doesn’t need to be monitoring everything I do.”
“Tell me to send him away and I will,” he agrees.
“Okay, send him away,” I laugh.
“You got it, but there is one thing you can’t fight me on,” he waves his hand forward, and a woman steps into the kitchen dressed as casually as I am. “Phoebe, this is Amy Lynn. Your official royal guard. She will be your shadow at all times. The threat from the traditionalists can’t be taken lightly. I’d like for you to get acquainted with her before you go out.”
Midnight has a whole lot of emotions about that, and I feel her push up against me with disapproval. I let out a sigh and place my hand on the counter to steady myself as the room spins. He’s quick to step back as she makes her presence known.
“I know,” I whisper to her. “This is not going to be easy for me either, but you can’t come out here if there is an incident. There are people around.”
-We can protect ourselves.- she growls.
“I know we can, but there’s a lot of work to do, and this will please our mate. Aren’t you all for giving him his way? He’s worried about us. How is he going to perform his duty as King if he’s worried about where we are?”
She settles enough for me to shake off the hostility she rushed out. She’s still significantly wounded by the implication, and when I look up at Knight, he seems to understand. He smiles, cupping my face.
“I’m sorry, Midnight, but we can’t take any chances. Once we get everything sorted, you can have the liberty to do what you want. For now, you and the pup’s safety are my main priority.” Midnight’s answer is a discontented grumble. “Don’t be grumpy, Pretty girl. This one’s on you.”
*Fuck off. You planned this with your Dad,” I shove him playfully. “That’s my new conspiracy theory.”
Chapter 169.
Not a very good one, he rolls his eyes.
Go get him out of here, and I’ll talk to the guard.”
“Thank you. I’ll come find you when the pups are up,” he agrees and kisses the top of my head. He excuses himself from everyone present Before ha goes, and very politely.
I wave at Amy Lynn. She smiles at me tightly as I take my cup from the older lady. This might be a different kind of problem. I know a snooty girl whent see one, and Amy Lynn has it written all over her face. She’s going to have a problem with how “perky” I am. If that’s what we can call it.
a
“Thank you..?”
“Belinda, my lady,” the older woman bows. Her short, dark brown hair falls forward, and a sweet scent surrounds me. Midnight bristles loving it just as much as I do.
“Belinda,” I repeat and step away from her.
“I’m an omega,” she chuckles. “That’s what you’re wolf is picking up on.”
“Oh, I’ve only heard of you guys. That is an interesting reaction.” I admit. Her face turns bright red.
“My Queen,” Amy saves me from embarrassing the poor lady any further. I don’t like that she took the liberty to interrupt my interaction with those whose pack I’m supposed to be taking care of.
“We’ll walk. I need to get moving before Allison gets here,” I motion her out towards the trails I’ve come to take every morning since arriving here. “You can call me Phoebe.”
“I’m afraid that’s not going to happen. I have strict orders from the king.”
“Okay, well, if you’re going to shadow me, along with your team, I think we should get better acquainted. Formalities will come and go with the shit that surrounds us all the time.” I take a sip of my smoothie to find that it’s a little sweeter than it usually is. Midnight approves. “Tell me about yourself. What makes you qualified to be my shadow?”
