Chapter 163
Consuelo comes out of the kitchen with dessert. She places a tray of biscuits and a couple of very nice teacups. Her mate comes out and sets up a glass coffee press along with creamer and sugar. The two of them bow and head back into the kitchen.
“So, you wanted a date worthy meal at home so you just gave an order and poof. That’s it?” I ask reaching for the coffee.
“Yup. That’s it,” he grins watching me pour his cup as well. “You know, it’s part of being the strongest on top of being in charge. Wolves are wired to be social creatures. The lower ranks are wired to follow and kind of suck up to the alphas.
“With rogues, it’s a little different. We want to prove that we’re the fucking best at what we do. With us being the royal family, everyone wants to show us what they have to offer. They prove they’re good at what they do and they have a place anywhere we go.”
“So this is like an exam? You brought them here so that they can be added to the roster once the villas are built,” I piece together.
“Exactly,” he grins, “What do you think?”
“I think, fuck yeah,” take a piece of the freshly made cantucci biscuit. It’s nice and cripsy.
“You take your coffee black?” he asks when I take a sip.
“This is Illy Classico. Why fuck it up with sugar?”
“How do you know that?”
“It’s your dad’s favorite. So, it’s all I keep here. I don’t like coffee personally. More of a morning smoothie person.”
“I know. I see you wake up every morning and go for a run with your little shaker bottle.” he smiles.
“I trust them if you do. I know you’re particular about who handles our food and this was really good.”
When we’re done he wipes his mouth and takes my hand pulling me out of my seat. I follow after him as he leads me towards the back door. There are more petals on the floor as we go. I can’t help my huge smile when I see what he’s done to our spot. It’s covered in blue roses and twinkling lights.
“These are fake.” he says flicking one when we get to the gazeebo. “They’re not in season and the lady at the flower shop was pissed when I told her I was going to rip them up for this.”
“I love it. All of it. You don’t have to piss the flower shop ladies off for me.” I laugh.
“I love pissing people off and if I get to see you smile like that because of it, it’s going to keep happening,” he pinches my cheek and then places his hands on my both my shoulders. “Stand right here,” he guides me a bit to the left. He looks back towards the house and nods. “Perfect.”
“What’s happening?” I ask. He stands in front of me letting out a heavy sigh.
get this right.”
“I’m not sure. This isn’t a werewolf tradition, but I did a hella research on this and I want
“Okay,”
“Something heart felt,” he whispers under his breath and then takes my hands.
“Oh shit.” I say when he looks up at me,
“Phoebe-”
I burst in laughter and immediately cover my mouth. “I don’t know why I’m laughing.”
“Holy shit, how are you feeling all of that at once?” he grins. “That’s not what I want to say.”

“Say what you want to say then,” I urge in between laughs. He can’t stop smiling anymore than I can stop laughing. I try taking deep breaths to calin myself and I slow down enough to grin.
“Phoebe, don’t laugh,” he growls his eyes turn pitch black before they glow red. I press my lips together, trying my best not to laugh again. “Are you good?”
“Mhm,” I hum, not trusting myself.
He inhales sharply, reaching for me. He cups my face and completely invades my that the nervous giggles fade to nothing.

with the softest expression I’ve ever seen on his face. It’s then
“I can’t think of a way to tell you how much I love you, everything about you. How grateful I am to have found you then and now, because while it used to be a fantasy, it’s the only real thing that has ever happened to me.” he keeps his eyes on mine as he slips one hand into my hair while he reaches into his pocket with the other. I all but throw up when he lifts his hand holding a white gold ring with a jade stone on it–the same color as his eyes. “Part of the bargain on your contract is matrimony. So, in honor of your first bill as the Rogue Queen,” He steps back, taking my hand as he gets down on one knee. “Alpha Phoebe Rizen, will you do me the honor of becoming my bride?”
I stare at him, completely lost for words. My entire existence has momentarily gone blank. Even Midnight, the chatterbox she’s been all night, has nothing to say because this is definitely not a werewolf thing, and I never expected it. I’d come to terms with the way things were done in our mating.
“Are you okay?” he ask worriedly when I don’t move or breathe, I think.
“Yes,” slips out of my mouth. “Yes.”
“Yes?” he asks confused to what I’m confirming.
“Yes.” I repeat.
“Yes?” he asks again.
“Umm, yes. Nathan Knightly, I would love to be your bride.”

“Yes,” he shouts, standing, scaring me half out of my skin. His arms come around me, and he lifts me up, spinning us around. He steps me back on my feet while I laugh, and before I can say anything else, his lips are on mine. When he pulls away, I feel lightheaded. “This thing is never coming off.” He takes my right hand and I switch them. “Why?”
“It goes on this hand.”
“Oh,” he says, accepting my left. He stares down at my hand and moves to slip it onto my index finger. I tap the one it goes on, and he laughs as he slips it on. “Thank you.”
I scream scaring the shit out of him and when he steps back I pounce on him nearling knocking him down. He laughs and tightens his hold on me.
