From Rougue To Luna novel Chapter 20

He leaned down and kissed me gently before releasing me. "I will come find you when we're finished."

My heart fluttered in my chest and my smile widened as he lead me out of the forest. He opened the door to the main house for me and flashed me a quick smile before walking the opposite direction to meet Asher. I felt a small disappointment as the bond faded and left me cold without him near.

I made my way down the hall and followed it to two large double doors. I could hear a slow buzzing of movement and chatter behind them where wolves were beginning to file in for breakfast. It was stilly early, but many seemed to be up already. I took a calming breath before pushing through the door and walking in. I was surprised by the size. It seemed much smaller when I'd last been here. It held four long tables on each side of the room, separated by a large aisle leading to the main serving table. Smaller tables were scattered in the corners and against the walls.

As I made my way down the aisle my stomach knotted. I could feel eyes beginning to turn on me and quiet whispers started to circulate around me. I took another breath and focused on keeping my heart rate even. I couldn't let them see me react. I had to stay strong. I made my way up to the main table and grabbed a plate, filling it with a scoop of eggs, a few pieces of bacon and two pieces of toast. I snagged a pack of strawberry jam before turning around to wide eyes. Many quickly shifted their gaze, but some trained them harder on me, watching. I slowly walked toward an empty spot at the table against the wall when a familiar voice caught my attention.

"Well good morning Miss Walker."

I looked to my right to see Elliott's kind eyes crinkling from his smile. "Oh, good morning Elliott. How are you?"

"I'm well. Would you like to join me?" He motioned to the seat in front of him. I hesitated, but finally moved to sit in the empty seat. I'd never sat with anyone in this room before. Usually Omegas were to sit alone, or outside if there were no seats to spare. I usually took my food back to my cabin to eat with mom when I'd lived here.

I shifted uncomfortably as I felt some of the lingering gazes focus harder on me. Finally, the quiet morning hum of movement and general discussion returned to the room and I gave Elliott a grateful smile as I began to eat.

"Have you enjoyed your time back so far?" He asked quietly as he continued eating his breakfast.

"I have. I have to say though, I feel like it's about to become more difficult after today."

"Oh? Why is that?" he asked with a curious expression.

"Oh shoot. I forgot to grab my strawberry. I'll be right back." She moved to stand and I handed her my extra. I usually loaded up my toast, but I thought this was a good moment to share.

"Here. You can have mine. I don't need two." I tried to keep my voice even, but her beauty was truly unnerving. I wasn't sure how to respond to someone like her.

She smiled and sat back down before taking it from me. "Thanks. It's my favorite. I can't eat my toast without it."

"Same! Who wants to eat plain toast? It's really the only way to eat it."

She giggled and my heart warmed. Maybe I could do this. If everyone were as nice as the two of them, it would be a walk in the park. But I knew it would never go so smoothly. My life tended to encounter speed bumps at every turn.
