He growled lowly and snapped, "I do not want or ask. I demand it. I simply thought you'd like to be aware of who she was, and give her the chance to tell you herself."
The older male's eyes narrowed at me before he huffed and sat back roughly in his chair.
The young large male to my right spoke loudly and stood, focusing his attention at those around the table. "We will accept her here and allow those in the pack to discover only what she'd like for them to. This is between our Alpha and his mate and her pack should she accept them. We will honor our Alpha's wishes." He turned to face Everett and nodded before doing the same for me.
Everett nodded shortly and stood, holding his hand out for me to take as I stood and silently lead me out of the room. Once the door closed and we were back out into the common area I felt the breath is been holding finally release and I stopped, pulling Everett to a stop with me. He turned and faced me with a questioning look but waited patiently for me to speak. "Thank you Everett." I breathed.
He stepped closer and held my hand firmly in his. "You can just call me Rhett. My friends and family are the only ones that call me that."
The traitorous blush began to creep back up my cheeks as my eyes locked on his. "Thank you, Rhett."
"You don't need to thank me for that. He should have never questioned me on this. I was doing them a courtesy. It was never open for debate. You're now an extension of me and will be treated as such until we reach our decision. This is as much up to you as me."
I nodded slowly. I wasn't used to such control in my own future and the feeling felt foreign now. I'd only had a sliver of this once before but that was long gone.
"Come on. I want to show you something." Before I could answer, he squeezed my hand and walked me out through the back door and down away from the main house.
He lead me through the tree line and into a small clearing. The mid morning sunlight filtered through the canopy above and filled the small space with a glow as the dust in the air nearly sparkled as it danced in the wind.
He nodded and before I knew it, I'd pushed up to press my lips against his. He stiffened in surprise but quickly recovered, leaning fully into the kiss as his hand pushed into my hair. After several long moments, we finally broke apart and I instantly longed for more of his touch.
He took my small hand in his and stood, gently pulling me up with him. "You ok? You want to go get something to eat?"
I nodded and let him slowly lead me out of the trees and back to the pack house. We walked down the long hall leading to his room and he paused before heading back toward my own. I couldn't help the disappointment filling my thoughts. I liked the idea of getting a glimpse into his space.
He pulled his phone out and called down for our food and it arrived within minutes. I still couldn't believe how fast the service was here. The same young girl came in, blushing furiously at an Alpha who didn't notice her attention, or at least pretended not to care. We ate in comfortable silence before I finally felt courageous enough to start the conversation.
