Chapter 119
I head to my bag and quickly pull out the little bag of pills I have stashed in there. Yep, I’ll need two of those to get me through a phone call with my parents. I quickly throw on my white, fluffy robe and slippers and head downstairs where the guys are already waiting for me at the table. Hunter surprisingly pours me a class of red wine while Mason fills my plate with pizza.
“What’s the special occasion?” I ask suspiciously.
‘Oh come on, sister, one glass won’t kill you.” Kaiden smirks from across the table.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t suspicious but who am I to say no? It’ll mix perfectly with the pills and get me a nice little buzz going.
Dinner talk is the usual, bits of muted business and ‘who’s hot‘ this year at school. I cringe internally thinking about the whore–ish things my brothers do but that’s just the kind of conversations you get in a male dominated house. I polish off the last of my wine and get up to excuse myself, stumbling slightly with the rush I get from standing so quickly. Mason’s hand darts out quickly to my waist to stabilize me but pulls it back even quicker like I’ve burnt him.
“You, okay sis?” Hunter asks.
“Yeah, yup, just stood up to quick. I’m going to go call Mum and our Dads.”
“Uh actually. It’ll be a family call. Come on, we can go to my office.” Kaiden says, standing and leading the way with Hunter right behind him. Mason stands, but doesn’t move, he bends slightly and looks into my eyes. Fuck. I bring my hand to my lips in a ‘shhh motion and wink at him, which has him standing up straight and looking a little stunned. He’s kept it from my brothers once, maybe he’ll do it again.
Back in Kaiden’s office, we all squish into seats behind the desk in front of the laptop. Kaiden hits the call button, and it rings twice before Mom answers. She’s sitting on my Dad’s lap with my other dads on either side of her.
“My babies!” Mom says excitedly.
We all exchange pleasantries, explaining how the first day of school went and hearing about their trip before things get serious. My Dad clears his throat before he speaks. “Isla.”
“Yes?” I ask sheepishly, hoping to god that my brothers didn’t spill about the party.
He sighs and rubs his face. Mom nudges his arm to continue.
“Look Princess. We want to be honest with you, okay? but I’m going to ask that you please don’t freak out because we are handling it.”
Okay, yep, totally sounds like something I shouldn’t freak out about.
“We’ve come here to try and negotiate a deal with the Mexican Cartel. They have…they have some things we need.”
“Okay, and that has what to do with me?”
Odd because Dad never likes to talk business in front of me.
“Miguel, the leader, he wants something in return.”
“But we’re not going to give it to him!” Mom cuts in.
“He wants you to marry his son, who is quite taken with you. Do you remember him?”
I think back to my sixteenth birthday when we had a whole lot of different families come to celebrate. It was crazy intense, and Daddy warned me to be on my best behaviour because he was trying to make friends with other families to benefit us.
“You mean that kid that wouldn’t leave me alone until Hunter almost shot him?”
“That would be the one, but look, we’re not accepting it. We just have to stay a little longer to try and negotiate for something else. We just wanted to be honest with you so you could understand the situation if anything comes of it, okay?”
Mom speaks up again, and I want you to keep training with your brothers and Mason while we’re away, you can never be too careful!”
