When Ana returned to the office, Vincent, who’d gotten word of her return, immediately came out of his office.

He wanted to humiliate Ana in front of everyone, so naturally he wasn’t going to let her into his office for a private conversation.

He snorted coldly, walked up to Ana, and rapped his knuckles on her desk. His voice shot up sharply: “Anastasia! Where’s the contract? Did you close the deal?”

“No,” Ana replied.

Vincent had expected this. Miss Brooks wasn’t exactly known for being easy to work with. “Since you failed to land the account, pack your bags and get out! Don’t say I didn’t give you a chance!”

Ana frowned. “The day isn’t even over yet. How can you be so sure I won’t close this deal? Tell me–our company specializes in high–end custom jewelry. Which of our contracts gets signed on the first meeting?”

Vincent had been at the company long enough to know better, of course.

But he didn’t want to admit it.

Rules were made by people, and at the end of the day, he was the one calling the shots.

“Fine. You’re just grasping at straws anyway. I’ll let you finish out the day, then we’ll talk.” Vincent snorted dismissively, not even bothering to take Ana seriously, and headed back to his office.

Sharlene looked at Ana sympathetically. “Vincent is absolutely rotten. He’s deliberately setting you up to fail so he can fire you.”

She paused, then leaned closer to Ana and whispered, “Why don’t you go talk to Mr. Rhodes?”

With Cassian backing her up, Vincent wouldn’t dare pull this crap!

Ana shook her head. “It’s not worth bothering him over something this small.”

Besides, Ana wasn’t ready to let Vincent off the hook that easily.

Just then, the receptionist brought Miss Brooks and Olivia upstairs.

Seeing them, Ana was surprised. “What brings you here?”

“I owe you an apology for my behavior earlier,” Miss Brooks said to Ana. “Would you mind walking me through all of your designs in detail?”

Ana paused, then immediately responded, “Of course! I’d be happy to.”

“Should we go to the conference room?” Ana suggested.

“Perfect.”

Sharlene watched from a distance and couldn’t hear what they were saying, but since Ana and her guests had gone into the conference room, she went to prepare tea and refreshments.

That was always Rhodes Global’s way of treating clients.

What Sharlene didn’t expect was that Ana and Miss Brooks would stay in that conference room for hours, talking until it was almost quitting time.

Vincent stormed out of his office, his voice sharp and cold: “Where’s Anastasia? Where did she go?”

Seeing Ana’s empty desk, he felt a surge of satisfaction, thinking she must have gotten scared and left early.

That worked out perfectly–at least he wouldn’t have to waste his breath firing her.
