Chapter 254
“Honestly, I prefer Ana’s personality much more,” Olivia said.
“Come on, Mom. Let’s go.”
After Olivia and Miss Brooks left, Sonia stood frozen in place, swaying slightly as if hit by a hurricane.
Jenny looked at Sonia with concern, noticing how her hands were clenched into such tight fists that her nails were nearly drawing blood.
“Sonia, are you okay?”
Sonia’s voice came out like gravel, as if scraped from the bottom of her throat. “Why? Why does everyone like Anastasia? What’s so special about her? She’s just some nobody–how can she compare to me? I’m an artist! I’m so much better than her!”
Jenny sighed. She had to admit, Sonia had been taking a lot of hits lately.
Last time at the hotel, Sonia had tried to subtly badmouth Ana, but it backfired when Aurora Clark got pissed and tore her a new one.
Now some teenager had basically said she preferred Ana over Sonia. No wonder Sonia was losing it.
“You’re too impatient,” Jenny told her. “That bitch Ana is really good at playing innocent. She doesn’t say anything, which somehow makes her look even better. Meanwhile, you…”
“I was trying to stop you earlier, but you were so worked up that you pushed me away and wouldn’t let me talk. Look how that turned out.”
Sonia bit her lip, realizing that her impulsiveness had sabotaged everything.
“What do we do now?” Sonia asked Jenny.
This deal had been a sure thing. Once the contract was signed, the company would’ve earned tens of millions in endorsement fees, and she would’ve gotten half of that.
Now that money had gone down the drain.
If Aurora found out, she’d be furious. She might even fire Sonia on
the
spot.
Jenny thought for a moment before coming up with a plan.
“When we get back to the office, don’t say anything. If Aurora asks what happened, I’ll handle the explanation.”
“What are you going to tell her?” Sonia asked nervously.
She felt like nothing had been going right lately. Maybe she needed to visit a church and pray for better luck. And she definitely needed to be more careful going forward.
“I won’t go into too much detail,” Jenny said. “I’ll just say they suddenly changed their minds, and despite your best efforts to salvage the deal, they wouldn’t budge. We won’t elaborate on the specific reasons.”
