Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister’s Secret
Chapter 278
Anna’s POV:
I sat in the corner of the police station, watching Caroline and Claire from across the room. It was strange seeing them behind bars while I was free tjene whenever I wanted.
Just months ago, our positions had been reversed–my fingers sliced open, my hair cut short against my will. The memory still stung.
But now? Now I was outside, and they were inside.
Caroline and Claire were screaming at each other, their voices bouncing off the concrete walls. I sat quietly, legs crossed, feeling oddly detached from the chaos.
How many times had Claire looked down on me from her pedestal? How many times had Caroline treated me like I was nothing more than an inconvenience in their perfect Wright family?
Claire caught my eye and her entire demeanor changed.
“Anna,” she called out, her voice suddenly sweet and desperate. “I’m innocent! It was all her idea!” She pointed at Caroline. “Those damn cops took my phone. Can you help me call Blakey?”
Caroline’s hand shot out, slapping Claire hard across the face. ‘You’re talking nonsense! I should rip your mouth off!”
Claire’s eyes filled with tears, but there was venom in her voice. “Go ahead! Every time I caught you with those men when I was little, didn’t you always threaten to gouge my eyes out and rip my mouth? Why don’t you do it now?”
Caroline looked wounded. “I’m your mother! How dare you speak to me like that! If I hadn’t been with those men, how would you have survived? My biggest regret is not giving you up for adoption the moment you were born!”
“Without me?” Claire spat. “Without me pleasing my step–brother, do you think you could have stayed as Mrs. Wright all these decades?”
“That’s right!” Caroline’s face contorted with rage. “If you hadn’t developed those sick thoughts, that old man wouldn’t have cut us out of his will and kicked us out of the Wright house! But you’re fine now, aren’t you? Using Blake’s credit cards, living like the princess you always were! Have you ever thought about
me?”
I shifted in my seat, growing bored. Their family drama didn’t interest me anymore.
Michael noticed my restlessness. “Tired?” he asked.
‘Separate them,” I suggested. “They won’t reveal anything together.”
I knew Caroline’s embezzlement charges were already settled, But William’s case would take time. The hospital evidence might already be destroyed. Still, Blake deserved to know the truth about his father.
“I’ll take you home,” Michael offered.
As I stood to leave, both Caroline and Claire panicked.
“Anna, just wait!” Claire shouted. “Blake will bail me out soon! He’ll notice I’m missing!”
I paused mid–step and turned back. “Do you really think he won’t want to kill you? Just like you killed his father?”
Claire stumbled backward, her entire body trembling.
I wanted to ask her more–why she’d hurt Blake when he’d been nothing but good to her–but Michael stepped between us.
‘You can’t get worked up,” he said, patting my shoulder gently.
I felt the anger sitting like a stone in my chest, unresolved.

Chapter 278
Ill move them to separate facilities, Michael promised. “I guarantee even Wright Group can’t find them quickly, a melee as to do will come to light. He looked me in the eyes. Trust me.
I lowered my gaze and took a deep breath, deciding to leave this mess behind.
Just then, an officer rushed in, looking uncomfortable.
Behind me, Claire shouted, “Anna, I’ll tell you the truth if you let me go!
The truth. What truth? Facts would be investigated by the proper authorities. Truth always comes late but can’t be twisted by those with alterior motives
Like Caroline said, Claire had lost her mind. Why would I believe a single word she said?
Seeing no reaction from me, Claire fell to her knees, sobbing.
“Anna, I’m telling the truth. I want to live, not for myself, but for Blakey. Blake will fall apart without me!”
I almost laughed at the absurdity. Once, I would have seen this as Claire flaunting her relationship with Blake, but now? Blake and I were over. If he wanted to fall apart over someone, it had nothing to do with me.
I’d done what I needed to do. The rest could happen naturally. Even if Blake eventually bailed Claire out, so what? Living every day with his father’s killer would be its own punishment.
The name Blake Wright had been like a curse branded into my past. Now, I was finally truly separated from him and could live my own life.
I sighed. “Claire, you’re young. You might not understand my feelings for your step–brother. Emotions are complicated–so complicated that even giving up doesn’t feel like a loss anymore. So what you’re saying can’t hurt me. Stop with these clever little tricks. You made mistakes, and you need to face the consequences. No matter what you say, you can’t escape legal punishment.”
I meant it partly as farewell advice.
