Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 279

Chapter 279

Caroline’s POV:

I caught the change in Anna’s expression, her breathing going out of rhythm. Doubt and disbelief filled her face at this critical moment

knew Blake was sickthat was truebut I also understood that Claire’s care for him wasn’t born from the noble feelings she claimed. It was selfish, calculated.

My mind drifted to the past. I had once casually suggested to Claire that we might hasten William’s death while Blake was away, hoping to secure the inheritance sooner. But William hadn’t left us a penny.

What shocked me even more was that Claire had actually gone through with it. My daughter’s motivation wasn’t about moneyit was to eliminate someone Blake cared about, increasing her own importance in his life. Claire’s obsession with Blake had reached a pathological level.

As a mother, I naturally understood my daughter’s thoughts. If I stayed silent now, perhaps Claire could escape punishment. But I felt a chillI had raised Claire as a single mother, yet in this crisis, my beloved daughter showed no concern for my situation and seemed ready to push all responsibility onto me.

I collapsed onto the floor, tilting my head up to glance at the door. In that moment, I lost all interest in money and status. Nothing mattered anymore.

A tear slid down my face as I whispered, Anna, take Claire to see Blake. He really is very sick, I can testify to that. As for everything elseI did it. I’ll confesss

Anna’s POV:

I was shocked by Caroline’s sudden change. She nodded heavily, looking decades older in an instant.

Claire, oblivious to what was happening, got up from the floor and smiled happily See, Anna? I told you I was telling the truth!

Before leaving, I looked deeply into Caroline’s eyes. When I first married into the Wright family, why did you give me those drinks that damaged my body?

Caroline smiled, expressionless. When you and Blake got married, Claire attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. Do you think I could let you have Blake’s child after that?

She looked up at Claire, but her daughter remained completely unaware the conversation was about her, too consumed with joy about her impending release.

Caroline gazed at the back of Claire’s head for a long time before sighing and dropping her head. I guess I’ll trade my life for the child you lost. I accept that.

Now I understood why, after my marriage to Blake, the Wright family never mentioned Claire’s socalled accidental illness.I finally got why they allowed Claire to accompany us on our honeymoon and even live in Seaside Manor.

But I couldn’t help wondering: Did Blake know? Did he know so early on that Claire had inappropriate feelings for him, yet still allowed her to be so close? I couldn’t be sure, but it was too late to dig deeper now.

You think your life is equal to my child’s? I considered you family for four years, Caroline. Let me tell youyou don’t deserve that. You’ll face legal consequences!I said furiously.

In the police car, heading toward a remote area in Boston’s suburbs, my mind became as desolate as the passing landscape. Claire’s words kept repeating in my head: Anna, you have no idea how much harm you’ve caused Blakey.

Claire had shown me videos and photos from her phone, her big eyes no longer fearful but full of interest as she studied my reaction. She seemed to hope that describing Blake’s suffering would make me feel guilty.

The first video showed Blake in his room. The surveillance footage was blurry but recognizable. He was writing something when he suddenly character in a virtual world given too many commands at once.

Then he turned the pen into a weapon, stabbing it toward his arm. Several people rushed in, taking the pen away. They injected him with a sedative, causing him to go limp. They carried him to the bed. From then on, no sharp objects were allowed in his room.

Another video showed Blake arguing with Claire at the Wright Estate. He was angry enough to frighten her. After Claire handed him a ekon down. He sat against the wall holding the phone, silent all afternoon. When the phone was taken away that night, Blake showed no reaction.

You know why Blakey stopped insisting on having a phone? Claire asked.

I shook my head.

Because Blakey said, She never called me.

Why didn’t he just tell me directly?I asked.

How would I know? Men are dramatic sometimes, she giggled, jingling the handcuffs on her wrist.

I fell silent, scrolling through Claire’s phone. Her gallery had more pictures and videos of Blake than of herself. Claire had definitely devoted herself to Blake.

What do the doctors say? Is there a chance he’ll recover?I asked.
